"Shamrock waterproofing was recommended when we moved from another state into an older home 2 years ago. The job was completed before we moved in; and, we were impressed with the number of workers from other service companies (our handyman, Termite specialist, HVAC installing our duct system), who commented on the quality of the job that Shamrock did, one of them saying “who did your crawl space, it’s immaculate”. Now, 2 years later, we needed a drain system to re-direct storm water in our sloping back yard, and were delighted that Shamrock could do the job. Keith came by within a couple days and explained options and a very fair quote for approximate install in 6 weeks. Michelle, in their office, was so cooperative—she was on top of scheduling, and arranged the date around our vacation plans. As the appointment neared, I took videos of the rainwater and emailed them just so they could see the issue in action. Andrew (a supervisor) felt it was a good idea to come by before the job to check the area out to make sure the plan was on target. On the day of the job, the crew showed up on time, and started to work. They ran into obstacles that they didn’t count on—digging through unexpected tree roots and a lot of clay, as well as 100˚ heat; but, they seemed to take it in stride—working non-stop. When the job was complete, they walked me through the process, pointing out each part of the job, explaining the reasons for lowering dirt in one area, raising it in other areas. It all made sense. And, they paid attention when I requested that they try to dig for the pipe in one area to avoid removing as much grass as possible. They managed to replace the grass in that area so that it looked undisturbed. The workers (Ryan, Oscar and Alberto) were a dedicated team who were respectful, professional, and did the job with seeming care of our yard. We highly recommend Shamrock Waterproofing, and appreciate a job well done!"

Many septic professionals agree that spring is the best time of year to empty a septic tank. By this point, the temperatures have usually warmed up enough so that the ground is no longer frozen, which makes it easier to access the tank (and less likely for the waste to be frozen inside the tank). Summer and fall are also decent times to do it, but winter isn’t.

Your septic tank naturally contains good bacteria, and you won’t really need to do much to put good bacteria in the septic tank. You can use additives like active yeast, rotten tomatoes, or store-bought septic enzymes or chemicals if you’d like, but typically, the system will produce beneficial bacteria on its own. The best way to keep that bacteria thriving is to avoid using chemical drain cleaners, which can kill off the good bacteria in the septic tank.

The main difference between a mound septic system and a conventional one is that the drain field in a mound system is built up into a mound composed of sand and gravel to increase the filtration time the wastewater sees before it is returned to the aquifer. There’s also a significant cost difference, with mound systems typically costing far more than standard septic systems.

Septic tank costs vary with the size of the tank—and the size you need depends on the size of your household. For example, a 1,000-gallon septic tank is the minimum size for most 1-, 2-, or 3-bedroom homes, and costs between $900 and $1,500. However, the tank is only one part of the septic system—which costs significantly more to install. If you’re setting up a new septic system (rather than replacing an existing tank), you can expect to pay about $7,310 on average. Costs can be higher depending on the type of septic system you choose.

A leaking well pipe is quite different from if the well itself is leaking. To seal a leaking well, pour a cement mixture or bentonite into the space between the well casing and the borehole wall. The heavier cement collects at the bottom to form a solid seal, pushing lighter materials like mud and fluids up toward the surface.
