"It's not often you close on a custom home and have nothing but wonderful things to say about your builder, but that's exactly what happened. And in the middle of a pandemic! In fact, we parted ways with two builders before even getting to Carl and Ron at Triangle Classic Homes. But once we did, they made the process easy from beginning to end. They were extremely communicative no matter my preferred mode of communication, fast, and reasonable. Something to note is that my husband has worked in new home construction his entire career, and said it was the best framing he'd ever seen. I wouldn't think twice about working with Carl and Ron at Triangle Classic Homes again in the future. In fact, we're already dreaming of detached garage. So it might be sooner than later."

"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

"Owner Junior Green was a friendly, honest fellow who was reliable, worked hard, did a very good job, and left the site clean. My job was painstaking in places and access was a bit tricky, but no problem for Junior. He mostly worked alone and cut no corners. He started with the foundation and outside of masonry wall, which looked great. We then ran into weather problems and my dissatisfaction with colors chosen from misleading Sherwin Williams color samples, which put him behind schedule and I had to suspend the project due to going out of town. I could have switched painters then but did not. When he returned he worked steadily and finished my project in less than the expected time. I am very pleased with the outcome. My only gripe is that he does not have an account with Lowe's, where I preferred to buy because they sell in small cans to try out different colors. He says he does not like their paint but they carry Cabot and Valspar so I don't get it. I now own several cans of unused stain and did not get a painter's discount on all materials. Also, he is not cheap. Still, I recommend Clean Hands and will be a return customer."

"If there was a word better than amazing, that is the word I use to describe working with Duane Knight, the owner of UBuiltit. We live in Michigan and found a beautiful lot on a beautiful lake that we just had to have. The downside was the house on that lot was, to put it nicely, a dump! We brought Duane to our site, talked over the vision and the rest is history! He managed the process from start to finish. From tearing the previous “dump” down to celebrating with us as we moved in. Duane let me be as involved as I wanted to be, which was my absolute favorite part. He let me meet the contractors and be apart of the whole process. He was responsive to my thoughts and ideas but also added his input when needed. He restrained us (budget wise) when needed but let us be creative in other ways. He was on site everyday and taught us so many things about the building process as we were first time home builders. He is a family man with great values and morals. I would not recommend anyone BUT Duane and UBuildIt!"

Let me just begin by saying that Dana and Rex are very nice people, sweet and friendly as can be.  That being said, I would never use them again.

We first contacted them in the middle of Oct. about doing the work.  We explained what we wanted and the time line we wanted it done in.  The only thing we were very specific about was having the porch done by Christmas as this was a gift that we were giving each other and we wanted it done for the holidays.  They told us they would be able to have the whole job (porch, kitchen and bathroom) done by the first week in Dec.  My husband and I both questioned that, but they insisted it was doable. We gave them the 1st installment the 1st wk in Nov. Let's jump forward.... the 1st wk in Dec. came and went and they had barely started.  They blamed this on delays caused by the county inspectors and the availability due to the Thanksgiving holiday of the custom glass windows for the porch. Skip now to the week of Christmas....  we've got a gazillion workers in here, there's dust everywhere, the master bath is torn up and we're having kids back home for Christmas.  Shower tile was installed incorrectly and had to be torn out and they ran out of tile for the porch which was a special order that had to be reordered.  Needless to say Christmas came and went with nothing being finished.  It was a HUGE disappointment.

An additional snafu that was not their fault was the kitchen sink.  We had ordered a Kohler farmhouse sink through Amazon that arrived damaged beyond use and because of trying to deal with Amazon and the company that had supplied the sink we lost almost a month trying to get another sink.  When we asked Dana and Rex to locate another sink for us, that became another mess; eventually they just gave up and the job fell to my wonderful husband who found the exact sink we needed by making 1 phone call to a supply store in Raleigh.

In the end we are at the 3rd week in Jan. and we're finally finished.  To be fair, the rooms turned out exactly as I had hoped and we're really happy with everything.  So to really sum up; DHR has terrible time management skills, they order the bare minimum of materials needed without considering possible damaged pieces or other contingencies (we had to wait for additional bathroom tile, porch tile and hardiplank for the exterior of the sunroom and bricks for the foundation) and their subcontractors aren't always careful about what they're doing (especially the tile people who do not speak any English, so trying to communicate with them was impossible without their supervisor being onsite, hence the bathroom mess). So that being said, if you don't have a firm deadline and you don't mind living in a mess and you're available to supervise the work everyday, go for it because the final product looks amazing.

"The actual roofing job in 2014 went fine. We were pleased with the initial work and the price. However, the company’s follow up is sorely lacking. They responded when we had a concern about some of the new roofing within a couple of weeks. Our second issue it took much longer to get a response from them. Now in 2019, we have been trying to get them to come and check out our roof for hail damage. We can’t get anyone to call us. Just some texts and passing off of responsibility. Their customer service is poor."

"We are repeat customers of ProGreen. This time we used ProgGreen to paint our secondary bedrooms, and like always they did a great job. They are professional, on time, and provide great quality. Most importantly they 100% stand behind their work, and make sure the customer is 100% satisfied."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

Renovating or remodeling an existing structure is usually less expensive than the cost to build a new house. That’s because you can save on the costs of new building materials, laying a foundation, framing the entire building, and installing new materials and utilities throughout the house. However, if a home is in very poor condition or is incredibly old, you could spend more on upgrades and restoration compared to building from scratch.

The most significant expense when building a barndominium is constructing the metal shell, which includes the roof, doors, and windows. Additional exterior components impacting the overall cost include metal siding and the concrete foundation.

A construction-to-permanent loan is the most common type of mortgage used to finance a house teardown and rebuild. These loans include financing for construction costs and convert to a long-term mortgage once construction is complete. Check the terms of the loan closely before beginning work—there are often restrictions requiring you to use licensed contractors for all work.

The primary reason homes have crawl spaces is so the foundation can reach down below the frost line to avoid dangerous soil movement and structural damage when the ground freezes. They’re more popular in colder climates where the ground freezes down to a few feet, and slabs are most popular in warmer areas where there is no frost line. Crawl spaces also provide a space for utility lines to run where they’re at less of a risk of freezing.

While many different factors determine whether a house is classified as a villa, many villas are detached homes with a European design influence, often with an emphasis on luxury and comfort. Modern villas often feature outdoor spaces such as terraces, gardens, or patios.
