"I called and explained that liquid was seeping out of the top of the septic tank, but the warning light had not come on. John spent 10 minutes on the phone with me asking questions and then explaining where I need to look for tripped breakers or blown fuses. I followed his instructions and was able to find a tripped breaker at the unit (severe lightning storms a few days previous) and got the unit up and running. No service call, and no charge. "Dimone Plumbing has to be the most responsive plumbers I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. They have come to my house on four occasions and are already scheduled to return. They first came out to repair a shower, all it needed was a "stem" replaced. They came out again to go under our crawl space and remove much of the old galvanized steel plumbing no longer in use from under the house. They came out again to isolate and cap a well line that used to feed the house, so that when we repair the well it cannot flood under the house. They came out this last time to replace drain pluming under the crawl space that had corroded and begun to leak. They are coming out later this week to install a reverse osmosis water filtration system, as we get our water from the (GENX) polluted Cape Fear River. When we had an emergency (as in a leak under the house) they were on the scene within an hour! Wow! Very Impressive! The price below is a total of what I spent with Dimone Plumbing for the first four visits."

If your drain doesn’t have metal crosshairs or crossbars, you should use a tub drain extractor. These tools create a grip on the drain so you can turn it using a 1/2-inch ratchet drive, drain key, or wrench. Your drain may not have crosshairs if it's old and broken.

If methods like hot water or a plunger don’t work on your clogged drain, you can snake your drain to dislodge the plug. This can be a messy process, taking some physical effort and additional time over the other drain-clearing options. You can purchase a drain snake at a hardware store and choose from handheld options or those attached to a drill. Just work slowly, and be ready to call a plumber if you’re unable to reach the clog from your drain or P-trap.

It can take anywhere from half an hour to a few hours to fix a main line clog, depending on the cause and severity of it. The job should not take more than a day to complete. Keep in mind that the main line is not the same as your home’s sewer lines (which connect to the main line and run to your house). Your city is responsible for any clogs or damage to the main line itself.

To unclog a plumbing vent, you first need to locate it. Look at your home's roofline. The plumbing vent will be a vertical pipe sticking straight up from the roof. Since this pipe runs all the way to the main drain underneath your house, you should also be able to find it in the attic.

A plumber can get to the bottom of your smelly drain and clean it with specialized jets, hoses, and drain-safe cleaning solutions. It is also smart to call in a plumber if you suspect your drain smell is coming from a stubborn clog or even a leaky pipe.
