"Several companies told us the job was too small, but Quackers came out promptly when I called to get an estimate. Very happy with the outcome. While nobody wants to need to use a waterproofing company, it's nice to know there are some good options out there besides the really big and over-priced companies."

"I wish I didn’t have to keep writing reviews for this company, because that means my house had yet another problem! But if I have to, this is the company I want to give 5 stars to. Mike and his crew haven’t let me down yet through the multiple problems with my house. This time a settling inner foundation corner required a 52’5” pier! Yikes! And they piered the porch too. They came prepared with covers for my wood stairs, a machine to blow the cement dust out my basement window, and more. Very professional the whole time, they answered any of my somewhat nervous questions. They neatly cemented up the hole, and cleaned up after themselves completely. Would I use them again? Let’s hope I don’t have to, but if I do, then it’s a resounding yes!"

Customers say: True professional

"Marlon Tuckpointing did a professional and seamless job on my chimney. I had missing mortar, discoloration, and a cracked and worn down chimney crown. Marlon came out right away and performed an assessment, made everything clear (including the price), and stayed in contact with me during the entire process. What impresses me most is their accuracy in workmanship, including the type/color match of mortar as well as the waterproofing work that protects my home from damage. When homes are 60+ years old, it is time to start thinking about the mortar and brick that holds your home together. While durable, over time, sacrificial mortar degrades and it's time to call in a professional to maintain the look and stability of your biggest asset. I am confident that you can trust Marlon Tuckpointing to do the job and am happy to recommend them."

"We had St. Louis Insulation seal and insulate the crawlspace in our one-story 3-bedroom brick home in early December. The existing insulation was probably original from the mid-70s and was falling from the ceiling of the crawlspace, about half already on the floor. SLI provided an estimate and described their procedure -- sealing, not just replacing the rolls of insulation but sealing the floor and walls and vents. They described the timeline for the work. The estimate was pricey, but well in line with other providers of the same service, and it's a one-time job, not an every-20-years job. Ultimately we selected SLI as we were impressed by reviews of their work and by their professionalism and the clarity of their description of the work to be done. They arrived punctually and performed the work very fast, considering the nature of the work (removing all old insulation and all the other debris down there, putting in the new plastic and insulation and foam spray). I was very impressed by their politeness, efficiency, and the cooperation they showed in working together. (They're in the crawlspace and so if they had yelled or even been grumpy with each other, I'd have heard it.) They removed approximately 24 very large stuffed trashbags of old insulation (it's a large crawlspace) and stacked them neatly on the driveway, then put everything in their truck and hauled it away. (That was the first day.) They brought in the supplies of the new work -- holy cow, lots of plastic, tanks for the foam spray etc -- and quickly installed all of it. (That was another half-day.) They supplied photos of the work so that I didn't need to get into the crawlspace to see what they'd done. The work was fully completed within the time they had estimated. And everything they did was cleaned up. I would recommend, without reservation, their work. Great people, very professional, and they clearly have done this enough that they are very well organized. Because the entrance to our crawlspace is in the floor of a bedroom closet, they kept that bedroom closed while they were working, and took everything in and out via a window. It kept any mess localized, so that I did have to do a thorough cleaning of the carpet and all surfaces in the room but it was only one room, and I was cleaning the dust basically -- all their supplies and any trash were totally removed. So A+ on that. One small unforeseen issue was that we have small dogs, and we had not thought about the spray foam and any fumes, and SLI did not think of that either, until the day they were going to do the spray foam. We had to quickly move the dogs to another part of the house, and near a window, where they would be less exposed. (They're pugs so I think the fumes would not be an issue for a larger dog -- we just need to be careful because they're pugs.) If you have small dogs, or pet birds, you will want to consider how to keep them safe during the foam spray. Overall, St. Louis Insulation did a great job. They said exactly what they'd do, and they did it. Considering the nature of the work required (bending or kneeling in a crawlspace, hauling huge bags of old insulation and rolls of plastic while bending or kneeling), I am hugely impressed with the professionalism and with their good-natured attitude. They are very good at what they do."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

The most expensive foundation repair method is to install helical piers. Helical piers are a type of steel pier used to support sinking foundations in areas with poor soil conditions or deep bedrock. This foundation repair method can cost up to $3,000 per pier, including labor, because of its material and labor-intensive installation process. Total foundation repair costs can easily reach over $20,000 using this method.

The difficulty of adding a basement to an existing house can vary depending on the house’s location, the size of the basement, and the type and condition of the existing foundation. Adding a basement is a job best handled by the pros, so you’ll need to enlist professional help for this project.

While "dry" mode on your AC can help reduce humidity levels to some extent, it may not be as effective as a dedicated dehumidifier, especially in areas with extremely high humidity or larger spaces. Dehumidifiers are specifically designed to remove moisture from the air more efficiently, making them a better choice for tackling persistent humidity issues.

In most cases, it is safe to live in a home with minor foundation problems, but you should not let the issues persist. Virtually all foundations have small cracks from normal settlement, which are not a structural concern but should be sealed to prevent water intrusion. However, major damage—such as large structural cracks, sinking foundations, or bulging walls—can make a home unsafe. Other issues that can pose safety and health risks include poor indoor air quality from mold or pests, uneven floors, and rotten beams or joists. It is always best to have a foundation repair expert or structural engineer inspect any issues to determine if your home is safe to live in.

One handy thing about whole-house dehumidifiers is, once installed, you don’t have to worry about placement or changing the dehumidifier’s position. But if you are using a portable dehumidifier, we suggest keeping it away from walls, vents, and furniture. It needs a central, unobstructed spot with access to lots of air to do its job.
