I interviewed another contractor and decided that I wanted to hire Sam. However, my husband hadn't met him yet, so Sam made the trip back to our house to go over the job with my husband. Sam and his team did quality work and Sam communicated with me throughout the process. He was at our house, when he said he would be and kept his word from the beginning of this process. "If I could give 0 stars, I would. I hope this is a warning for anyone considering using Allen, they are absolutely HORRENDOUS to work with. Never in my life have I spoken with such a disgusting manager. To give back story, we hired Allen to inspect our backflow last July. A member of the team came out, inspected, and gave us a green/blue tag saying we were “all good to go”. He mentioned that we didn’t need any paperwork, and that they would submit it directly to the water district. A year later, our water district called letting us know they were shutting off our water because they never got a passing test from Allen. The manager and receptionist BOTH said it was mine and my husband’s fault because we mentioned in passing that we would eventually take out our sprinkler, so the information never got sent to the water district. DISGUSTING! This was also after admitting that the inspector didn’t work there anymore “for good reason”. After arguing with the Manager who still insisted it was mine and my husband’s fault, they sent out a new tech who straight up told the manager while I was standing there “the inspector did pass them in their inspection and gave them a tag. The information is all here. The office must not have filed the paperwork correctly”. They still continued to send us a bill for the re-inspection. Save yourself the hassle and hire someone that actually cares."

Unlike drying, which takes between 48 and 72 hours on average, asphalt driveway cure times are different and take much longer. Your asphalt driveway won’t actually cure for around six months to one year. During this time, it’s more likely to get damaged or weakened by heavy machinery, vehicles, and high temperatures. 

An asphalt overlay or top coat costs between $3 and $7 per square foot. For a standard, single-car driveway that’s 10 feet wide and 20 feet long, that’s a total of between $600 and $1,400. For a two-car driveway, you’re looking at a total of between $1,200 and $3,000.

Hot-pour sealants have an asphalt cement base that might also include rubber and other materials to allow the seal to flex in hot or cold temperatures. Asphalt emulsion sealants are not heated but are liquid applications that use water and an emulsifying agent to allow the asphalt and water to mix.

Whether you should resurface or replace your asphalt driveway heavily depends on its condition. If the foundation is solid and the damage is minor, resurfacing is your best bet because it’s more affordable and faster than replacing the driveway. But if your driveway has foundational problems and/or severe damage, like large, deep cracks and potholes, then it makes more sense to replace it. 

Asphalt driveways last anywhere from 15 to 30 years, but if you don’t stay on top of repairs, you may find yourself spending extra to replace your driveway before its typical lifespan. Stay on top of repairing cracks and potholes by routinely inspecting your driveway once or twice a year. It’s a good idea to pressure wash your asphalt driveway at least once a year to keep it clean. Apply a sealer every one to five years, based on your climate.
