"I initially believed the sewer line from my house to the main was covered by the city, but that turned out to be false. In Topeka, where I live, there are only a few companies, and they charge really high prices. So, I decided to look around in Kansas City. I probably won’t need their services again anytime soon, but they did an outstanding job!"

"Hector was amazing from start to finish. Prompt and shows up himself to estimate the work, which was much more reasonable than the 2 other quotes we received, and does a great job through until the end. I have used him three times (for clients anbd myself) and has been consistent every time. He listens, gives quotes quickly, and schedules the repair promptly. Could not recommend more highly, he will be my sewer and septic guy for the long-term!"

Small jobs welcome

"Terry with GroundTruth Inspection Service is truly great to work with! He is a great communicator and makes sure you understand exactly what is needed and what he is doing. He is upfront and honest and not looking to take advantage of his customers. He has vast knowledge of not only the inspection side of things, but also understands plumbing, foundation, and other things that are affected by sewer lines and how it all works together. He helped locate multiple issues with our sewer line, clear the line from a backup, and helped me set up things to monitor and prevent this from backing up and ruining our basement. I appreciate the quality of work, customer service, and honesty from Terry. There aren't many of these type of people around and I am fortunate to have met him and worked with him. I would HIGHLY recommend him or any of his associates."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

You should not attempt to snake your sewer yourself. Accessing and snaking your sewer requires heavy-duty equipment, and while renting is possible, misusing it can damage your sewer main and leave you with very expensive repair costs, not to mention potential environmental issues and severe water damage. Accessing your sewer also exposes you to hazardous sewer gasses, and failing to seal the sewer properly after work can be very dangerous. It’s always best to hire a professional sewer cleaner near you to handle this type of work.

In most areas, drain cleaning professionals don’t technically need a license, as they aren’t altering your plumbing system in any way. However, we recommend hiring a drain cleaning professional with a plumbing license and certification. Certified plumbers are more likely to provide professional solutions to drain clogs without damaging your system. They’ll also have the diagnostic tools and experience necessary to remove the clog entirely rather than providing a temporary solution, as a handyperson might. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to check your plumber’s professional licenses before hiring.

A clogged sewer line is not typically covered by homeowner’s insurance, though some sewer line issues are covered. For instance, damage related to a fallen tree is usually covered. Though sewer line replacement is not covered in a standard insurance policy, some companies offer add-ons for this purpose. Read the fine print before spending your own money.

Costs vary by severity and access requirements. Typical pricing ranges from $100 to $350, increasing with complexity or for emergency services.

You should hire a sewer service professional to unclog a main sewer line with tree roots. Tree roots can grow into the main sewer line, and this problem requires a specialized hydro jet, or rooter, that is powerful enough to clear the roots. The tree can also damage the main sewer line, and a professional will need to make repairs or replace the damaged sections. Sewer line replacement costs about $60 to $250 per linear foot.
