"After receiving several professional opinions and quotes on a sluggish toilet that required multiple flushes, every "pro" concluded I needed to have my main sewer drain underneath my slab floor completely removed and reconstructed. We finally called KC Sewer Repair, and after doing a very thorough video diagnostic, the owner decided the issue could be solved another way. He installed an "air assisted" toilet. Now we can take care of business with one flush! They literally saved us thousands of dollars by being smart, honest, and caring, treating us with respect. I could not more highly recommend a plumbing company."

"Serious lack of communication on project status of a very big project. They did not notify me of delays until I called and asked. Left a horrible mess in my yard - tree roots, pieces of the old sewer pipe, and large clumps of dirt everywhere. Did not tell me there would be a 4 foot high, 60 foot long pile of dirt in my yard when the finished. Workers were heard swearing loudly at times. The vertical clean-out pipe they installed was leaning at a very steep angle because of the way they filled dirt up against it, so I dug it out myself and straightened it up. They told me they would put 3 large flowering plants back in the ground, but they did not, and one is completely gone. Tried to get me to pay the extra $300 cash discount at the end of the job, until I questioned it."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

In most areas, drain cleaning professionals don’t technically need a license, as they aren’t altering your plumbing system in any way. However, we recommend hiring a drain cleaning professional with a plumbing license and certification. Certified plumbers are more likely to provide professional solutions to drain clogs without damaging your system. They’ll also have the diagnostic tools and experience necessary to remove the clog entirely rather than providing a temporary solution, as a handyperson might. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to check your plumber’s professional licenses before hiring.

As a preventative measure, hydro jetting should be done every one to two years. However, the best practice is to hydro jet your sewer line once per year. The ideal frequency depends on several factors, including the age and condition of your pipes, how prone they are to clogging, how often the sewer line is used, and the type of waste disposed of in the system. If you frequently experience clogs or are unsure, it's best to ask a licensed plumber for a recommendation specific to your plumbing system.

Unlike regular cleanings, snaking your sewer line should be done as needed. There’s no reason to snake your sewer line if you don’t have any noticeable issues, like slow drainage or plugged drains. You can add it to your regular sewer cleaning checklist as a prevention method (on the same 18- to 22-month schedule), but it’s not always necessary.

A professional drain cleaner is a plumber or specialized drain cleaner with the necessary tools to unclog drains and tiles to keep waste water flowing out to the septic tank or city sewer for processing. Keeping wastewater from backing up into your home helps keep you and your family safe from potential contamination and sickness. These pros can help resolve nearly any drain situation in a safe and efficient manner.

A sewage smell in your crawl space is usually from a damaged or clogged pipe leaking sewer gasses or actual sewage underneath your home, but there are some other common causes. Moisture, from poor or damaged encapsulation or a malfunctioning sump pump, can harbor mold and bacteria, causing a musty smell. Pests can also get stuck in your crawl space and die, which causes a sewage-like odor.
