"The guy arrived with out a water pressure valve. Then wanted to charge me an hourly rate to go pick up one. I clearly described the problem as being low to no water pressure to the 1fl and 2fl when using the washing machine, which is located in the bsmt. The guy carries the valves, but just didn't have one on his truck that day. I ordered the exact same valve on Amazon and received it faster than the next available appointment. I was charged my Angies list coupon plus about $485 additional dollars."

"High & Dry was great to work with on this project. I had a crack that had been filled 20 years ago by another company. I called High & Dry and they had me send over pictures. I received a quote 2 days later and they were out to fill it within a month. The hardest part was finding a dry day! I highly recommend this company!"

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

A sump pump should be placed at least three feet deep in a pit. The rim of the sump pump basin should be level with your basement floor. If you find your pit is too deep, you can fill the bottom with gravel until the rim of the sump pump is flush with the floor.

Costs range from $300 to $1,200, depending on the pump type, issue, and installation complexity.

A small sump pump running infrequently uses an average of 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month. The average cost for electricity is $0.171 per kWh. The size and use frequency affect how much electricity it uses. Sump pumps average one-third to one horsepower (hp) motors. One hp is equal to 745.7 watts. Watts multiplied by the time your pump is running divided by 1,000 equals your average kWh. Multiply kWh by your average cost of electricity. In areas with high rain or a marsh basin, the average cost can be as high as $15-$25 a month.

DIY is possible for simple repairs. Professional services ensure proper diagnostics and long-term reliability.

The most common cause of a clogged sump pump is natural debris buildup. As water enters the sump pit, it can carry small pieces of debris that build up over time, or the debris can get caught in the filter. If you forget to cover the pit after cleaning the sump pump and pit, debris can also collect in the pit. Corrosion on the metal discharge pipe can also clog the pump. Additionally, if your pipes freeze, it can prevent water from draining properly and cause a clog.
