"THANK YOU to the two men who replaced my fence six posts and a section of pickets yesterday. They worked well together. They listened to me before and after their work. They worked steadfastly through the morning. Much appreciated here. If I were their employer, I would keep these men."

"For this work we obtained three estimates. Larry Conyers, the owner of the company, and his son Matt Conyers, came over and discussed the project with us. We were very impressed how willing they were to listen to our ideas and develop a design around them. Also, the price that they quoted was very reasonable. We liked how flexible they were as we made minor modifications to the design. They tore out the old deck, build the new deck and pergola over our hot tub, and created a paved patio around the deck and hot tub. We were extremely happy with the workmanship. In fact, we were so pleased with the work that we asked them to do further landscaping, including creating a path with pavers/gravel, tearing out the old lawn, and putting down turf, and placing outdoor lighting. They did an exceptional job at a reasonable price. We both were extremely impressed with their esthetic sense, and were very pleased with the final results. For a short period, between the first and second part of the project, we did lose contact with them, and were not able to get hold of them by phone or e-mail. However, we found out that they were short staffed at the time, and once this was clear, there were no further problems. We would recommend Conyers Construction for any deck on landscaping work."

"I called C&J construction on a Saturday after the wind blew down my fence breaking one of the poles that was held in cement.  Curtis called me back within 1/2 an hour.  He came to investigate the damage and started the project the following day on a Sunday.  He even asked if I mind if they work on Sunday, I said no that is fine with me, because he said some people don't want people working on their house on a Sunday. I wanted to get it done as quickly as possible because I have a dog that needs to be in a fenced in yard.  He had to pour concrete for two posts and replace two fencing sections.  He reinforced the side of the fenced closest to the house because when the wind whips up he shakes constantly.  He did an excellent job taking care of this it has not moved since he reinforced it.  He also checked the whole fence to see if any boards needed replaced and put screws in to secure the fence more.  The previous owner had put in nails, and the nails were pulling away from the fence causing more issues.  Curt was very professional and willing to do what it takes to make sure my fence was secure.  It only took him 2 days to complete this project and he communicated with me thoroughly along the way to make sure I knew how much it would cost so I would not be surprised.  There are not many individuals who I like coming to my house but I trust him and his team to come and will have more projects done through C&J Construction.  I would highly recommend them for a professional job done correctly and price is very reasonable."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Ideally, your concrete should set slightly above ground at an angle sloping away from the fence post. This will add extra support and allow water to run away from the wood fence post. Keeping water out will help prevent wood rot. Additionally, you can add soil on top of the concrete for a seamless finish.

There are two things you can do to make a fence replacement easier—but keep in mind that easier doesn’t mean better. First, you can use a jack or some other type of machinery to pull the post out of the ground. If that’s not available, a digging bar can help.

Second, you can backfill the hole with gravel rather than creating a concrete footing. Keep in mind, gravel is less secure. You should only use it if you’re installing a lightweight fence or have heavier, clay soil.

Regular maintenance for wire fencing includes annual inspections for rust or damage, tension adjustments every two to three years, and immediate repair of any breaks or loose sections. You should also regularly check the fence posts for stability, particularly after severe weather, and make sure to remove any vegetation growing along the fence line.

A fence installer or homeowner should place a snow fence upwind of the desired drift area, while keeping the prevailing wind direction in mind. When installing a snow fence, its posts should be sturdy, as they will be the weakest areas in terms of tensile strength. Posts should be buried at one-third their height and placed no more than eight feet apart.

The depth of your post hole depends on your post length. If you decide on a two-rail fence, the posts are likely 6 feet long. You want your hole to be at least 1/3 of the post length. In this case, your post hole should be two feet deep.

If you opt for a three-rail fence, the posts will typically be 7 feet long, meaning your post hole should be 28 inches deep.
