Chesterfield Fence repaired our sinking sun porch and made it look new again. They were very easy to work with. Thomas, the project supervisor, did a great job of keeping us informed as to what was happening and when people should be expected. If he was going to be late, he always called. We are pleased with the workmanship and quality of the repair. We would highly recommend this company.

THANK YOU to the two men who replaced my fence six posts and a section of pickets yesterday. They worked well together. They listened to me before and after their work. They worked steadfastly through the morning. Much appreciated here. If I were their employer, I would keep these men.

In August 2020 I got several bids to replace my old deck with a new one. The bid from Chesterfield Fence and Deck presented to replace my deck was reasonable and they estimated the deck would be finished early January, 2020 so I accepted their bid in September 2020 and I paid a deposit of a little under $10,000. January came and went and the new deck was not built. It was a bit of a hard winter and Covid-19 was still a problem so I expected a delay. I contacted them in February to ask when they would begin construction. They had dropped the ball on getting the survey of my house so the permits had not yet been filed. Ok. Not a good start. They were going to hire a company to do the survey but at the end of March I sent him the survey from when I bought the house 8 years prior and that was good enough. Ok. The permits were finally applied for. Now it is the end of March, the permits have been filed and I thought they could finally get me on their schedule. At this point I strongly considered getting my deposit back and hiring a different company. The only reason I didn’t do that is because I thought that it would be faster to continue with Chesterfield Fence and Deck than to start the process again with a new company. At least I’ll have the new deck by Spring. No. They applied for the permits but they didn't have the blueprints signed and sealed by an architect, as was required. It took them three weeks just to get an architect to sign off on the blueprints. These people are already 5 months behind schedule and they still had no sense of urgency to build this deck. Now it is May and I thought they could finally put me on their schedule. It was set for June 14. Six months behind the date they estimated when I signed the contract and paid a nearly $10K deposit. Oh, but the circus isn’t over. They still haven’t built the deck. Or even started the work. The first time they were actually scheduled to come out, they didn’t have the lumber they were going to use on my deck. I was told that the truck they were expecting to deliver the lumber was behind schedule so they needed to bump mine back in the schedule. It’s always something with this company. When they actually did come out, Mid July, 2021 (Seven months late) to start the demolition of the existing deck to replace it with the new one, the head guy on the work crew asked me a question about the joists and if I saw they were running the opposite direction of the ones on the existing deck. I didn’t care about which way the joist ran so I asked him what difference did it make? I’m glad we had the discussion that followed. This is the one employee I have run across at this company that wants to do the job right. Typically the joists run perpendicular to the entrance door and the house which means the floorboards run parallel to the house. This is the common way to build decks. Look at yours. It is probably like that. Their new deck design had the floorboards running the opposite direction, perpendicular to the house. I don’t know why they designed it this way but they did. I asked if we could just switch the direction of the joists. This became a much bigger problem than just the floorboards running the wrong direction. My deck hangs over my driveway and garage a few feet supported by a cantilever. The support posts are on the edge of the driveway. Their new design had the posts three feet into my driveway which is required to support the deck with the joists running the opposite direction. Since the deck also overhangs my garage their design put a post three feet into the driveway which blocked three feet of my garage. I don’t know how they did not see this as a problem. The garage is a big white door on a brick house. It doesn’t blend in. So, now they need to redesign the whole thing again with the posts, joists and floorboards in the right place. They did this but did not have any sense of urgency to get it done. It took them another week to get the design finished and signed by an architect. Then they needed to resubmit it for a permit revision and put me back on their schedule. I missed the entire spring without having the new deck and it’s well into summer. They are nearly eight months behind the original estimated date of completion and they have not offered to do anything about this unbelievable delay. They showed no sense of urgency throughout this messed up process. They offered no discount or sense that they were putting this as a priority. I’ve owned businesses before and I know that when you make a mistake, or many mistakes, you need to do everything possible to make it right. They have done nothing. I called several times over the months trying to talk to the owner to make him aware of how they are handling this deck build but was always told he was busy and would get back to me. I have never heard a word from him. He seems to let the company run like a circus and just take people’s money and get things done whenever and however sloppy or late they want to be. I wish I was smart enough to bail on this company in March, or April or May and hire a company that can actually get the job done. You should think about this before you sign a contract with them.

They cheated me. I paid for posts 8 feet apart, but they are 9-10 feet apart. As I have more than an acre of property they cheated me out of a lot of posts I paid for. The gates are too far from the posts and my small dog can get out. I told them before the work that they needed to be tight due to the small dog.

Please send workers to customers who speak English!! How can I communicate with the foreman if he doesn't speak english. This team did not clean up after themselves leaving debris in our yard. They did a poor job at the corners of the fence and had to call them back to address the issues, they are returning to fix the errors....but I would not to business with them again.

Job went perfect. I was approved for financing the day I called. When the contractor came out for the bid, he made a materials and labor suggestion based on our needs. The original estimate of 9k worth of unnecessary privacy fencing, that I could not afford, went down to 2.5k of sturdy chain link providing a safe play space for our rescue dog. The contractor said they are more interested in helping customers out than making large sales. The fence is very professional. It is even wired into the ground so our dog cannot dig under it. The city inspector said it was a "perfect" construction job. Finished in under 8 hours. Roughly 100 feet of chain link, posts, concrete, plus gate. High quality materials and the yard was spotless when the job was finished. Very trustworthy. I feel strongly that I got what I paid for. Peace of mind that my dog, a known short fence jumper, is safe as well as my yard and padlocked gate. The most important part, is that my dog LOVES the freedom of having a large yard to run freely in.

We had our initial consult 9/13/18, our work was not started until March and finally finished on Thursday March 21st. We were initially promised our deck would be completed in December or early January. Certainly bad weather in January and February contributed some to the delay but weather was good all of December. Only other hitch was on our first day of construction, the work team left our water pipes to our kitchen faucet completely uncovered and open to air, as well as our basement rim joist openings, on a night when freezing temperatures were expected. They did come back that evening after our call and covered everything appropriately but a little scary at the time. Overall, we are very happy with the finished product and can only say the time frame is ultimately the only thing we ended up unhappy with was the timing to complete the job. We took advantage of a 20% discount coupon on Angie's List, which saved us enough on the deck to complete the water management system.

I am writing as the board president of Providence Gardens Condominiums in St. Louis. We entered into a contract with Chesterfield Fence and Deck (CF&D) in 2018 to remove and replace 38 decks and to update two others. We are very pleased with CF&D's work quality, professionalism and communication. The decks are strong, look terrific and will virtually eliminate the maintenance our prior wood decks required. While we did experience a few issues over the course of the project, CF&D resolved them properly, professionally and in a timely manner. CF&D really continually strived to please us. Many thanks to Ron Clayton (Sales), Dan Riffee (Production) and Melissa Gowen (Production).

We signed the contract to have a deck built on our new house May or June 2018. They expected a several month delay due to their heavy workload. When it came time to start, they put us off so many times stating their current project was full of problems. They finally started the job in October and the quality was subpar on all levels. It didn't even pass final inspection in Wentzville. We went back and forth with guys coming out to look at the problem and try to fix things that were poorly done. We finally got tired of dealing with them and paid the final bill in January. They may have once been a great company with a great product, but it appears those days are over. Very disappointing experience and deck. Would NOT recommend to anyone.

The work crew was great. They replaced the gate, anchor posts and lock for a very old vinyl fence, and they also installed a drop-rod. The work works and looks wonderful, and they did a good clean-up job. I'm very happy with the work done and would definitely hire them again.

We could not be happier with our deck! From the very start, everyone at Chesterfield Fence and Deck (CFD) was very helpful and professional. The crew was VERY clean, sweeping up the patio underneath the new deck every night before they left. The deck looks AMAZING - our neighbor even send us a text message about how beautiful the deck looks! Now, any company can be easy to deal with when there are no problems, but a true judge of a company's character is how they handle problems. We had an issue where the ribbon board (a decorative board that runs perpendicular to the main flooring) wasn't centered properly and was also the wrong color. After sending a supervisor out to look a the deck they, without hesitation, said they would make things right. In this case, making things right was removing the entire surface of the deck (unfortunately rendering it unusable) and redoing it all. We even asked if it was possible to reuse the half of the decking that was too long (by cutting it down to the correct length), but wouldn't do that since the replacement decking for the other half may not be a perfect color match; they would rather take the financial hit than put in a deck that didnt look perfect. To me, that speaks volumes about the company and it's leadership. It seems like it's harder and harder to find a good company that doesn't cur corners and stands behind their work, but in my experience, Chesterfield Fence and Deck is most certainly one of the good guys and I cannot recommend them enough!

We shopped around for decking companies in December '17 to build a screened in sun room. We settled on CFD because of their reputation. Our experience with the company has been nothing short of a nightmare. Early in the planning phase, they had multiple instances of lost paperwork that I had to resubmit. Construction started late May '18 with an estimated completion of three to four weeks. As of this posting, the project is still not completed. During the first week of construction, the crew built our deck to the wrong size. I sent multiple emails and called multiple numbers to raise a red flag. The crew proceeded to drill the post holes in the incorrect location the following day. It took more phone calls to finally halt construction so that we could review the build with the salesman and project manager. CFD did redo the sizing so that the deck constructed matched the drawings, but we are now left with a torn apart patio beneath our new deck.. After this issue was resolved, we had numerous issues with communication and scheduling. I truly believe that if I did not call the scheduler every day to get a status update, our deck would still be in the beginning phases. During these calls, I would get numerous excuses as to why the crew was not scheduled to our project, but no timeline on when they would continue work. Recently, I was told that the project was at full completion, and was ready for the final walk through. When I completed a personal inspection, I found multiple issues with our supposedly complete project. I found areas with nails protruding, multiple pieces of fascia that had large gaps, an unfinished part of siding that would have allowed rain water to run into our house, and a large kink in the newly installed gutter downspout. As of this posting, I am still waiting on the company to finish up a couple of the items. The last item that I found unacceptable was that I had to ask the construction manager to have the crew clean up. It should go unsaid that a construction crew should clean up after themselves at the completion of a project. The decking boards were covered in mud, the siding had a red pigment smeared on, the ceiling panels had a black substance, and there was debris all over the place. They came out to "clean up", and then I had to still do about 4 hours of cleaning to get all of the mud, red pigment, and black substance off of the new deck. As of a month ago, I had a ladder go missing. CFD said that they mistakenly packed it onto their truck, but has not made any effort to return the ladder to my property. This project has been marred by a lack of communication, a startling neglect of quality control, and a clear disregard for customer satisfaction.
