"We had a driveway poured just before winter of 2023. The driveway was approximately 12’ x 60’. We were given a free estimate. The project was scheduled to take 4 days. The project was right on schedule. Just like clockwork. Each team that showed up for their portion of the project were all professional concentrating on the task at hand. My wife & I were very satisfied with the driveway. Sue & Pete F."
"This is third time we've used Crosstown Concrete (first time review on AL) and things went just as great as the other two times. Greg is a wonderful person to do business with and has a real expertise for this work. Initial meeting he was able to quickly size up the install area and make recommendations on final design. Provided several cost alternatives in final bid and once approved was added to his work schedule. Crew did a great job translating the design into an installed patio and walkway. Looks absolutely fabulous. Also had CC perform repairs to an existing paver driveway - this was installed by CC ~ 12 years prior. Had issues with weed growth and some cracked blocks. Driveway was power washed and and re-sanded with polymeric sand - newer, better and stronger material than what existed a decade earlier. Was told it's much better at weed suppression than what had been originally used. The result was breathtaking - truly looked like a new driveway. Both project were perfectly executed - Greg and his crew saw all that was needed and were great at covering all details. Never had to have a follow up on open issues or something that was missed. If concrete and brick paving weren't so darn expensive I'd be hiring these guys all the time!"
"My driveway was so broken up & water was running to my house & down basement wall. The replaced all concrete & got it away from my house & down toward the street. Alfredo went the extra mile for me. All the men were courteous, & knowledgeable. He cleaned up the areas afterward & made sure I was satisfied with the results. It will be so nice having a smooth driveway to my garage instead of endless broken concrete & holes. Plus, rain will no longer be running into my basement. He was more affordable than the other quotes I received & saved me so much money with great results. Thank you Alfredo Bravo."
"Highly recommend Letendre! Did a great job on our garage floor and driveway. Professional, efficient and looks awesome. It was a tough job our garage is level with the road and Shawn came up with a solution for good water drainage."
"Chris was professional, friendly and easy to deal with. Even though he hadn't installed any permeable driveways, he had installed permeable patios and didn't see any problems with doing something similar with my small driveway. He even suggested some options for reusing the water. I would have accepted Chris' proposal but I found someone who installed permeable driveways using recycled material which is what I initially wanted and was having a hard time finding. "
"Job went extremely smoothly. Sue in the office was a great communicator and Shane and his crew did an outstanding job. I am very happy with the quality of materials used, time it took to complete the job and most importantly how well the driveway turned out. I will be calling them back for a patio next Spring!"
Building a road on a slope requires careful planning and will normally require a drainage system underneath to prevent flooding and damage to the road over time. Your professional may lengthen your road to create switchbacks if the slope directly to your home is too steep, as there are regulations for maximum road slope. The drainage system will help prevent runoff from the higher side of the slope from damaging the asphalt or concrete. Keep in mind that building a road on a slope isn’t a good DIY project, as a lot can go wrong.
While some areas may allow for a slope of up to 20%, this is often the maximum slope for driveways, with a few exceptions of up to 25%. Other regions may have a maximum of 12%, 15%, or 18%, so check with your local building department to ensure you’re laying a driveway that is up to code for your location.
When asphalt cures, it typically changes from a very dark black hue to a lighter, more matte gray color. Cured asphalt also won’t be tacky or sticky to the touch or emit any odors from the asphalt mix. Additionally, the surface of fully cured asphalt won’t deform under any pressure.
New asphalt typically needs 24 to 72 hours to dry before it can handle light foot traffic and careful driving. Although it may appear solid after a few days, the full curing process, where the asphalt reaches its peak strength, takes much longer—generally from 30 days to a year.
During this extended curing time, the surface remains relatively soft and can be damaged by heavy vehicles, sharp objects, or high temperatures. To protect your investment, it's best to avoid parking heavy machinery on the asphalt until it has fully cured.
The exact time required for drying and curing depends on several factors, including the weather, the specific asphalt mix, and its thickness. For the most accurate advice tailored to your situation, consult with your asphalt contractor.
The answer to whether or not you need to get a permit before you start your driveway can vary widely based on local ordinances and the scope of your driveway ideas. In most urban and suburban areas, a permit is needed before building a new driveway to ensure that a homeowner is using safe materials and proper drainage practices while designing and constructing a new driveway. In some rural areas, a homeowner may not be required to apply for a permit. When building a new driveway on your own, always check with your local building department to see if you need to request a permit. When hiring a driveway contractor, verify that the right permits are being used before driveway construction begins.
