"It went perfectly. The only criticism I have is that my lawn now has a few large white spots where some concrete or sealant dripped. I'm sure the lawn will grow back there but it doesn't look too good now. The driveway looks great, however."

"Al helped plan a landscaping project involving flattening a hill along one side of our driveway. He suggested a couple of solutions considering the entire cost of the project, not just his portion (for example including the cost of hauling soil vs. regrading vs. repair work to a sprinkler system). We also worked out a plan where we could relocate some of our natural stone wall.
He told us he had a month's work ahead of ours, which was a bit of a bummer since we would have preferred the work to start sooner, but the work started on schedule. The work was completed quickly and was exactly what we wanted and agreed to.
They solved our driveway problem!

"We are so impressed with the work, from start to finish! All I have to say is: Wow! L&R was one of the lowest bids that we received. Ron came to do our estimate, and was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He had great suggestions for what to do with our driveway and drainage issues. Every inch of the work they did for us was beautiful, with so much attention to detail. They put down straw over the raw dirt to reduce mud and erosion until grass grows in. Once the driveway was completed, they came back and filled in the dirt around the driveway, and even put back our planter, rocks, border and garden fence! The driveway turned out beautiful, and drains perfectly. The backyd is perfect. All the work they did with their laser sights really paid off. The neighbors have been commenting on how good it looks. When the work was done, Lyle came over to walk through the project with us and make sure we didn't have any questions. Now that's service! They fulfilled everything we asked to a T"

"They came out to review what we had talked about.    They had solutions to our problems with our steps, walkway and general landscape areas in front and back of the house.

We like the ideas, but some parts were a bit more them we could afford at this time.  The estimate included a paver sidewalk instead of cement.  They presented an $11,900 plan for new steps, new walkway, removal and replacement of scrubs in  front and in back of the house.  Also included was a 20x20 foot cement replacement of part of the driveway.   About $1500 of this was for future work in the back of the house.   The owner provided a printed layout plan of his ideas.

The company does a lot of work with paver walkways and we were looking more for a combination of cement with paver trim.  Cement work is done by a sub-contractor.

The company was good in following up on us with out making us feel pressured. After 2 months, we decided to scale down our needs and look for ways to do the project in small pieces over the next two years.  We have done nothing since.

If a paver look is what a person wants, this is a company to be considered.   They knew the product and had the experience."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

In Minneapolis, small issues escalate quickly due to the climate. Pay close attention to hairline cracks appearing in the fall, as they will expand during the winter freeze. Minor edge cracking, small areas of standing water, or even vegetation growing through the asphalt are all warning signs. A single winter can turn a minor defect into a major repair need.

Helpful?

In Minneapolis, extensive alligator cracking covering over 30% of your driveway, multiple large potholes, or deep rutting from snow plows signal the need for new asphalt paving. However, smaller issues like isolated cracks can be addressed with crack sealing, and surface oxidation only requires sealcoating. A professional can help you determine the right solution for your specific situation.

Helpful?

Minneapolis’s harsh winters and frequent freeze-thaw cycles require careful planning for asphalt paving projects. The best installation window is late spring through early fall, when temperatures are stable. Thicker asphalt layers and flexible sealants help prevent cracking from temperature swings, while robust drainage systems are crucial to manage snowmelt and heavy summer rains typical in Minneapolis.

Helpful?

For asphalt paving in Minneapolis, hot mix asphalt with Superpave or polymer-modified binders is ideal for withstanding freeze-thaw cycles. A Class 5 aggregate base is commonly used for stability, especially in neighborhoods with clay-rich soils. Geotextile fabric helps prevent shifting, and anti-stripping additives are recommended. Local paving contractors often suggest enhanced drainage layers to handle heavy spring runoff unique to Minneapolis.

Helpful?

For a typical Minneapolis home, asphalt paving work primarily solves problems caused by severe winter weather. It replaces surfaces destroyed by freeze-thaw cycles, eliminates trip hazards from frost heaving, and creates a smooth surface for efficient snow removal. Proper installation also addresses drainage issues from heavy spring snowmelt, protecting your property value and ensuring safe access year-round.
