Our company has provided complete general contracting services for residential remodeling projects since 1978. Employees. Use only Licensed & Insured Sub-Contractors with long-term relationships. MN Lic. # BC-2562. Serving The Twin Cities Since 1978. EPA RRP Certified

"Overall, the project went very well, We are happy with the quality of the work and the result. The plans were creative, and we were happy with the design selections and guidance. There were a few unexpected changes to layout due to structural constraints, which resulted in a less efficient flow. The cost of change orders were not clearly explained prior to execution. The contractor was very hands on and at the job site extensively, and she was easy to get a hold of. The carpenter was not available to work on the project on Fridays, which did extend the project timeline. The contractor pointed out repairs/improvements that needed to be made to bring the home up to code. This added cost, but was necessary and appreciated."

"I am over the top elated with the work I had done in my garage and home from Twin Cities Closets! I had storage closets put in my garage and a wall board for hanging rakes, shovels, etc. I had a pantry made out of my coat closet in the kitchen and it’s so functional, and clean looking. I had cabinets put in my laundry room with a storage closet, beautiful! Dylan who did the installing was friendly, knowledgeable about his work, courteous, and had the best manners I’ve ever seen in a young man in a long time! He is welcome at my home anytime."

We have enjoyed a loyal following of customers that consider us to be their “remodeler for life.” We believe that the main reason why people remodel or rebuild their homes is not for resale value. Rather, it is for their own enjoyment, or what we call, your “emotional return on investment.” We want you to know that we would value the opportunity to do business with you. Our designers can and will work with you and your budget to create the best solutions possible. Whether your project is big or small, we welcome your call.

Design Showroom Locations: -2600 Johnson Street NE, Minneapolis, MN 55418 -362 Snelling Ave South, St. Paul, MN 55105 -5 W. Diamond Lake Road, Minneapolis, MN 55419 -4020 Minnehaha Ave South, Minneapolis, MN 55406 Castle Building & Remodeling Inc is a professional design/build remodeling company that specializes in residential remodeling. Castle is a second-generation business with over 3,900 past clients. Our unique design studios in South Minneapolis, Highland Park, St. Paul and NE Minneapolis allow Castle’s interior designers to help you plan anything from handyman project, bath or kitchen remodel, all the way to the largest remodeling projects. Our detailed specifications and comprehensive planning process allows us to guarantee a favorable experience by ensuring there are no unforeseen costs and by providing a guaranteed completion date.

"We hired castle for our kitchen remodel project. We contracted with them to complete a partial project up until finished drywall. Our biggest regret of the project was hiring Castle. We were skeptical from the beginning because their prices are very high. (For example, we hired a concrete crew to do floor demolition for plumbing lines and paid 1/3 Castle’s bid. We hired our own plumber which saved us 2,500 compared to castle’s bid for the same job.) However, we had heard good things from different sources and have also had “you get what you pay for” experiences when going with the lowest bid so were optimistic that the high prices were indicative of high quality work. They also were available to start soon while other contractors we spoke with were months to a year booking out just for estimates (in hindsight, there is a reason for that!) From start to finish there were mistakes, from smaller mistakes ordering large quantities of unneeded supplies, to glaringly large framing and window installation problems, to very visible mistakes like framing one of the entry doors into the kitchen 1.5” out of plumb from top to bottom. These mistakes were quite stressful to address/correct because we were the ones who noticed them and then had to alert project management vs the other way around. At first this was not a problem, but after a large framing problem which the project manager assured us was fixed but wasn't we lost a lot of trust in the company. We were made to feel like the problem for “whistle blowing” versus higher management taking responsibility or even being willing to have a conversation with us about it. Ultimately, I do not blame the carpenters for mistakes. There were many days a carpenter would show up with an assistant who would get called away early in the day leaving one person to complete a 2 person job and quality suffered. Our project manager was managing 6 jobs and quality control was almost non existent as a result. In summary: If we had to do it again, perhaps you can benefit from our top lessons learned from the experience. 1.) Do not sign the contract without aggressive and detailed look at every line item. We reviewed it before signing but not nearly thoroughly enough. We were under the impression we needed to sign to get the project scheduled and that things could be changed later. Not the case! This document is the holy grail of the project. Do not sign unless you are comfortable with every charge and job included. There were multiple mistakes in that document that we missed. For example, we had filled out paperwork saying we did not require a biff at the work site because workers could use our basement bathroom, but it made it into the contract and it was a $600 oops on our end. 2.) Do not sign contract without another thorough look through. Every change including refund for mistakenly ordered supplies on the part of castle (entire pallet of concrete and boxes of unused and unnecessary leveler supplies in our case) will cost you $125 change order fee and restocking fees. 3.) Aggressive management of project. Double check that work they say they will do in contract actually gets done how they say they will do it. Double check quality of work, and be prepared for pushback. ALL this being said, The experience was not all bad. The designer we worked with was very helpful and created a plan that neither of us had thought of that really transformed and worked well with our space. (She did retire mid project and is no longer with the company, so we can’t recommend her name.) We also had no issues with any of the work the sub contractors Castle used, the dry wall, HVAC, and electrical crews all did fine work and Castle’s project manager ensured they corrected mistakes if they did come up without issue. Overall Rating: 1.5/5 stars"

Closets questions, answered by experts

Yes, books are typically heavier than clothes, unless you have a collection exclusively of paperbacks or comic books. That’s why packing lots of books warrants careful planning and consideration. Consider packing up your reading collection first to determine whether you need to downsize it before loading it into your moving truck.

Yes, 12-inch shelves are often considered the standard closet shelf depth for storing folded clothing, shoes, and small containers. However, if you plan to store bulky items such as blankets, baskets, or cleaning supplies, you may want to go deeper. For specialized layouts, an adjustable system can give you more flexibility.

Costs depend on material, customization level, and additional features like lighting or sliding doors.

There are a few reasons custom closets are expensive: materials used, the luxury factor, and time to build. The people who can afford custom closets are those who can afford increased rates, and construction workers and contractors know this and charge accordingly. The time to build custom closets is substantial, especially if expensive material is being used or intricate details (like carved wood) are added to the project.

The vertical space between closet shelves depends on what you're storing. For clothing like shirts and sweaters, 10 to 12 inches is enough. Towels and linens need 12 to 15 inches, while tall storage bins may require 18 inches or more. Overcrowding your shelves can reduce accessibility and increase clutter, so be sure to leave breathing room for your items.
