The AMEK family are trusted in the Minneapolis and St. Paul region as custom builders and remodelers who have worked with local homeowners for 16 years. Family owned and operated. License #BC164402

"My wife and I hired Amek after we talked to about 15 other contractors to a series of small exterior jobs on our home. All of the other contractors wanted to do decks, or windows or siding. None were able/willing to do it all. We judged Amek's price to be exceptionally high(just under 4x the price of materials) but after trying for nearly 2 years to get the work done, we agreed to their price. Everything went well at first. Then, we went into a period where virtually no work was done for 19 days. As we got more and more frustrated, we learned that Amek had sub contracted our entire job and some of the sub contractors, sub contracted some of their jobs. We ended up in many finger pointing sessions. The quality of the work that was eventually done by Amek employees was top notch as was the work by one particular sub contractor. I wish that I could say the same for other sub contractors. Most disappointing was the poor communication between us, Amek and the sub contractors. Our advice to anybody considering using Amek is to insist that the work be done by Amek employees or be fully advised prior to signing the contract about which work can be subcontracted."

Stucco questions, answered by experts

While vinyl siding's lifespan of 20 to 40 years is impressive for the cost, other siding options can actually last much longer. Stucco siding can last 50 to 80 years when properly maintained and is only a bit more expensive than vinyl. Fiber cement is similar in that it’s a little more expensive but lasts more than twice as long. Stone and brick last the longest, often more than 100 years, but they’re the most expensive siding materials.

A standard drill will work just fine if you’re drilling small holes, and only a few of them. But anything with a diameter larger than 3/8 inch is best done with a hammer drill, since it is stronger, faster, and also makes your drill bits last longer. While you don’t absolutely need a hammer drill for stucco, it is a worthy investment if you think you might drill more holes down the road.

On average, EIFS costs more than traditional stucco, both due to its complex materials and tricky installation. You'll pay between $7 and $9 per square foot for traditional stucco installation and $8 to $14 per square foot for EIFS. Contact a local siding contractor to get an accurate estimate for EIFS or stucco installation based on your project specifications.

Many general contractors can handle adding stucco siding, but it’s best to hire a local stucco contractor as you’re more likely to get a clean finish on your stucco siding that maximizes curb appeal. Stucco can be a challenging material to work with, so hiring a professional contractor who has years of experience and specializes in stucco application is advisable. Compare price quotes from at least three stucco contractors in your area to find the right pro for your task.

The time required to remove stucco siding depends on the size of the home, the thickness of the stucco, and the complexity of the project. Most projects take between two and seven days, but larger or multi-story homes may require more time, especially if repairs are needed after removal is complete.
