"Had a pipe burst in ceiling and caused Sheetrock damage. MJQ painting was hired to repair. They did an awesome job and matched the repair to the rest of the ceiling. Mark was great to work with and Milton was exceptional at doing the repair."

"Brad did an excellent job repairing a crack in my popcorn ceiling. He repaired and re-textured that spot, then a week later came in and re-textured the whole level to blend it all in. It looks awesome and I am super pleased with the quality. His price was very reasonable as well, and he showed up on time both days, and even finished early (in my opinion) the second visit. I'm very pleased with Brad, and I wish I had used him on another drywall portion of this project."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

In most cases, no, you won’t need a permit to replace drywall. If you’re changing the floorplan of your home by adding or removing walls during the drywall project, then you might need a permit, but replacement or repairs usually doesn’t require a permit. Your drywall professional should be able to confirm whether or not a permit is required for your project. If it is, it’s likely to add between $50 and $150 to your total cost. Keep in mind that you will need permits if you plan to install new electrical wiring or plumbing lines behind your new drywall.

It’s always better to follow proven drywall repair tips and fix the seams that look bad. However, if you simply want to make them less noticeable until you have time to fix them, you can use paint. A darker color of paint makes bad drywall tape seams less noticeable than light-colored paint. Matte paint hides bad seams better than glossy paint does, too.

If you’re installing new drywall, you may need to skim coat the drywall first for a smooth finish and to allow the primer to adhere to the wall. It’s only necessary if there are imperfections in your drywall due to issues with the studs or improper drywall installation. If you’re refreshing existing walls, you may want to skim coat if there are imperfections across the wall. As an alternative, you can repair your drywall and sand it for a smooth finish before painting.

Drywall tape is made of paper, while drywall mesh is made of fiberglass or metal. Drywall mesh patches are suitable for repairing small holes in drywall, while paper drywall tape holds a crease better for corners. You need joint compound to adhere drywall tape to the wall, while mesh patches may be self-adhesive.

Regularly in areas prone to moisture or high traffic to catch issues early.
