"We hired Mick to tear down the sheetrock in our garage, and put up new sheet rock, tape and sand, so it would be ready for painting. He quoted 2 weeks for the job. The job took a total of 4 weeks, as he usually only worked 3-4 hours a day, and sometimes not at all. Poor communication. When he was done, it was not ready for painting, according to our standards. We are now re-sanding all of the high and sloppy areas. There is still spatter on the floor from the ceiling, which he said he would clean up. I have e-mailed him of our dissatisfaction, but as of now, we have not heard back from him "

Drywall can get wet and dry out without sustaining permanent damage, but only if the water damage is minor. If you have a small leak and are quick to correct the issue and set up blower fans and dehumidifiers, your drywall should dry out. It’s a pretty good idea to have drywall corners, also called drywall beading. Drywall is a pretty brittle material and corners tend to be rubbed up against it often. Rather quickly, the edges will start crumbling and you’ll need to replace the entire panel, or add beads on top and repaint the wall. Drywall beads—which are inexpensive—provide long-term support for the drywall and protect your investment.

It doesn’t matter which way you lay drywall, and you can choose to install it horizontally or vertically depending on the size of the wall and how tall the ceiling is. It’s easier to lay drywall sheets vertically if you have a taller ceiling, but laying sheets horizontally makes it easier to apply joint compound.

Beadboard is a decorative element and lacks the structural integrity of drywall. It cannot hold much weight and is not meant to be used as an insulator or moisture barrier, like drywall is. In almost all cases, beadboard is placed over an existing wall surface which, in modern days, is usually drywall, but decades ago could have been wood paneling.

Drywall mud should be left to dry for at least 24 hours before sanding, though drying time depends on the thickness of the application, humidity, and room temperature. Thicker layers or projects done in high humidity may require 48 hours or more of drying time. You’ll know the mud is ready when it feels completely dry and appears light in color throughout. Sanding too early can cause smudging or gouges, so patience is key for a smooth, professional-looking finish.
