"Brad was very professional with his work and was always quick to respond to text messages or return a phone call. He answered all of the questions I had and did not waste any time with getting in, getting it done and getting out. I have already recommended Dependable Drywall to friends and will definitely plan on hiring again for future drywall needs."

Small jobs welcome

"I am extremely pleased with the work done by Jude and his company, Beautiful Things Drywall, LLC. His cost estimate for our project came in more than 30% lower than other proposals. He was prompt in arriving to begin the project, and completed it over the span of two days, as promised. His work is top-notch, and he did a good job with clean-up afterwards. A few days later, we asked him to return to skim mud over the air bubbles that appeared after sanding, which he did the same day that we contacted him. He's been in the Drywall business for 18 years, and the high quality of his work reflects this. He will certainly be my first call if I ever need additional drywall work done on my home."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, even if you’re being careful, removing tile can damage your drywall to some degree. However, you can minimize the damage done to it by eliminating a majority of the grout and taking your time prying each tile off. Also, it's worth noting that you might have more drywall damages to deal with if your tile is set into the mortar.

Yes, walls on the top floor can be load-bearing if stacked on the floor’s foundation.

Certain drywall textures, like sand and sometimes popcorn, can be smoothed by applying skim coats, sanding the walls, or chipping away the texture. However, it’s worth considering removing the texture and starting with a blank canvas. Smoothing textured walls requires a lot of sandpaper and elbow grease and can take longer than just outright removing the texture.

Whether you need a drywall anchor depends on the specifics of your project, particularly what you're hanging and where. You do not need a drywall anchor if you can screw or nail the object directly into a wooden stud, as the wood provides sufficient support and stability. However, if there are no studs in the location where you plan to hang the item, you should use drywall anchors to ensure it is securely supported. For very lightweight objects, like small pictures, adhesive picture hanging strips can be a suitable alternative to anchors.

You can usually tell if you have plaster or drywall by touch (plaster is harder, colder, and smoother than drywall) or by tapping on it (drywall sounds hollow, plaster does not). If you still cannot tell, peek under an outlet cover and check the cut edges. The rough edges show the composition of the wall. You will see either drywall (two paper sheets sandwiching gypsum material) or only plaster material (no paper sheets).
