"I went there to buy some bathroom and kitchen faucets for a remodel. I had bought a good faucet there before and was pleased with the quality. I went there, there was no one behind the counter but several people in the other room. After a while, I poked my head into the other room and made eye contact and said hi. Still no one greeting me, no one letting me know when there would be someone to help. The people in the other room were simply chatting, having social time. I could hear them. Finally I poked my head in again and asked if there was someone coming. The person was rude and acted like I should just know to wait. I waited longer and finally left. I will not go there again."

American Water Damage specializes in water & mold clean up and restoration.

"I want to be really lenient because of staffing shortages, but working with American Water Damage was incredibly frustrating. We had a shower that the previous owners incorrectly installed and was slowly leaking into the walls. The salesperson who came out and examined the problem was super knowledgeable, gave a reasonable quote, and a good timeline for how long mitigation would take. His confidence is what made us proceed with the company, and it was all downhill from there. Scheduling was incredibly challenging, as no one would pick up the office phone and when they did they'd give incorrect information or say they'd have someone call us back (which they never did). Demo workers showed up outside of the scheduled time, and took all day whereas it had been scheduled for four hours. They took out much more than they needed (flooring that wasn't damaged and didn't have high moisture readings), then quoted needing to repair the entire ceiling/flooring in order to repair. It hadn't been communicated initially that daily checks would be required for mitigation work. Twice workers showed up outside of the scheduled appointment. It was incredibly hard for our insurance to get ahold of the company, and when they did American Water Damage dragged their feet providing information and photos. The project started in April and we didn't hear about starting repairs until late June. And then, despite multiple calls, we didn't get the final invoice for the demo until July (the invoice was also wrong and we had to renegotiate). We didn't end up using them for repairs because the demo and mitigation process was so ridiculous."

Sunderland Plumbing is a family owned business that has been serving the greater twin cities area for 26 years. We are a fully scale new construction, Remodel, and Service plumbing company.

"My outdoor lawn faucet with frost-free valve stem had probably cracked in winter which I realized when I turned on the water this spring and got same basement flooding. Fixing it required cutting out a piece of drywall to access the pipe. I had scheduled appointment with Sunderland Plumbing because they were the original plumbing contractors on the house. Tony had given me the estimate on the phone when I had called to schedule the appointment for 8:30 am on 5/17. Tony Sunderland and his son arrived exactly on time and fixed it in under an hour. While he was there, I had also asked Tony to check my garage faucet as well to confirm that that had not busted as well. He checked it out and ruled out any leaks there. Later that afternoon during my meeting with the insurance adjuster, I was told that I needed the busted valve for insurance purposes which I realized that Tony had taken with him after the job. I called Sunderland Plumbing and asked them to return the old valve and was very glad that within 10 minutes, Tony's son had stopped by again to drop off the old busted faucet while the insurance adjuster was still there. Overall I was very happy with the job that Tony and his son did and I would definitely call him again for my future plumbing needs."

Yes, most states require plumbers to have a license, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality, added future expenses, and potential code violations. Having a licensed plumber tackle your projects only protects you as a homeowner.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

Before finding the right plumber for your job, there are a few questions that you should ask, including:

  • Are you licensed and insured?

  • Do you charge for estimates?

  • Is your fee a flat rate, or is it hourly?

  • Who will do the work? Are they all licensed and qualified plumbers?

  • What happens if any breaks or damages occur?

  • What is your response time in an emergency?

  • Is cleanup included in the quote?

  • Do your services come with a guarantee?

Discussing these questions with your plumbing contractor will help eliminate future issues and clarify expectations.

Before your plumber pays you a visit, it’s a good idea to clean up any boxes, garbage, or other obstacles that could be in their way. In addition, it’s best practice to clean the area that needs to be inspected or worked on, like a toilet, for example. Make sure to keep kids and pets out of the way once the plumber arrives.

Typically, plumbing repairs cost about $325 per job but can range from $175 to $4,000 or more. Simple fixes, such as a toilet repair, will be less expensive at around $150 to $400. However, if you have a pipe that has burst, you can expect to pay between $1,000 and $4,000 or more.

The project that needs to be completed, the size of your home, and the type of plumbing pipes you have can all impact the final cost. External factors such as supply chain issues and shortage of materials all play a part in how much this repair might be.

A faucet replacement vs. a failed waste line flooding a finished basement would be at opposite ends of a very broad spectrum. "A plumbing repair" could range from perhaps a $150 minimum service charge up to tens of thousands of dollars for a substantial repair and associated cleanup, finish work, etc.

The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350.
