While all ice melts that contain chemicals can damage concrete, some are more concrete-safe than others. Magnesium chloride and potassium chloride are both salts that can melt ice without causing corrosion. Calcium chloride also causes minimal corrosion, making it another popular choice.

Concrete slump can be affected by the amount of water in the mix, the size of the aggregate components, the mix’s temperature, how long the concrete is mixed, and more. Mixing concrete with the correct slump depends on almost every component of the concrete mix being correctly balanced and is critical to ensure the concrete performs as expected.

Magnesium chloride is often said to be the safest salt-based option for pet owners. Potassium chloride and calcium chloride are other common choices. For homeowners with dogs, urea is generally safe for their paws and won’t be harmful if ingested. You might also consider opting for an ice melt brand designed with pet safety in mind.

If your epoxy application ended up a bit messy and left spills behind, there are several ways to clean epoxy off of a concrete floor. You can use a power washer with at least 3,000 PSI. However, it may be easier to use a scraping tool or an acidic cleaner, like vinegar, to remove unwanted epoxy. 

If the entire floor has epoxy and you want to remove just excess epoxy stains, these methods could still strip parts of the epoxy floor. Move carefully and in small areas to minimize damage, or call a pro for an expert finish.
