First Choice Exteriors is a family owned and operated business located in Eden Prairie MN. Our passion to customer satisfaction and supreme craftsmanship have been our foundation blocks since day one. We believe the details are the difference in any successful home improvement project. This mentality has made us one of the most referred roofing, siding, window, gutter, and full exteriors contractors in all of Minnesota. Our teams dedication to communication and our customer service reputation have allowed First Choice Exteriors to become a preferred roofing contractor for many town homes, apartments, and HOA's all around the Twin Cities metro. Thank you for making First Choice, "Your Choice"! We are experts in the business with a combined 30 years of experience in exteriors with an extensive list of services also including storm damage restoration and inspections. We will help you design your project while focusing on the needs of your home with attention to every detail. We offer high quality eco-friendly and economical products and deliver superior craftsmanship in a timely manner. Our top-notch service has built us a reputation of reliability and honesty, earning respect from our local suppliers and individual homeowners alike.

"After 20+ years of service, the roofing and associated appurtenances on our townhomes were showing signs of deterioration due to extreme weather and normal aging. As a result, the association board deemed it advisable to replace the roofs as soon as possible. After an exhaustive bid review and interview process with several roofing contractors, the HOA Board selected First Choice Exteriors as the successful contractor based upon: • Their extensive experience with large roofing projects, and townhome associations, • Their overall industry knowledge and experience, • Perceived provider quality as verified from reference testimonials, • Proposal quality and lowest “evaluated” cost, • Their perceived ability to deliver on all aspects of the project, • Their Availability/schedule, and finally, • Their flexibility/reliability as verified from reference testimonials. The scope of the project awarded to First Choice Exteriors included replacement of the roofing materials and roof appurtenances for the properties 15 buildings (68 total units), replacement of weather damaged windows and/or patio doors associated with 34 different units on the property, replacement of 38 skylights, and finally, the removal and replacement of the gutter systems. The committed schedule was approximately 4 weeks subject to favorable weather conditions. It is not an overstatement to say that the Board and the homeowners were impressed with the way the project was executed. From the very start, the First Choice staff was extremely well organized, sensitive to the homeowners’ needs, and fully engaged. There were 3 full time project managers on site managing the workers and interfacing with the workers and homeowners as necessary to address all construction issues and homeowner access/egress during construction. Dave Mack, Alex Pedersen, and Preston Willier, our 3 Project Managers, were seasoned and knowledgeable resources with excellent communication skills truly facilitating the conduct of work and communication with the homeowners. The crews performing the actual roof replacement were on the job from approximately 6:30am each morning (weather permitting) and worked tirelessly until after 7:00pm to keep the job on schedule despite a few weather related delays. During the bid process, bid solicitors are often promised “everything” to garner the contract. I can honestly say First Choice met all of the selling points they identified to sell the Board on their award. The quality of the work performed and attention to detail was beyond reproach, the crew cleaned up the grounds each and every evening before leaving the jobsite(including magnet sweeps of affected landscaping, walkways and driveways for nails), the project and homeowners were well managed by the site managers, schedules were achieved, and First Choice’s co-owners, Mark Willier and Mike McCain were fully engaged on the project, visiting the job site regularly to communicate with the Board and review project progress. In summary, First Choice Exteriors has demonstrated that they are a very qualified supplier, completing every aspect of our roof replacement project in a competent, and quality/customer centric manner, and I would recommend use of this organization without reservation for any of the services they offer. "Was very pleased with the overall result of New Again. I submitted dimensions and pictures over the website and received a very competitive quote. After stripping the deck there were a few more boards where some rotting was identified and Barak and his team replaced them promptly. Stain looks great and made an immediate difference. I had been contemplating if my 20 year old deck was too far gone and needed replacing... but after seeing what Barak could do with stripping the old paint off, replacing some bad boards, and staining... I'm very glad I chose to do this rather than replacement."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Whether you can paint over your existing paint depends on what’s on there. Most of the time, you’ll want to sand down or scrape off the paint that’s currently coating your surface. Epoxy paint, for example, won’t let new paint stick to the surface. Latex paint is more forgiving and will accept a new coat, but a primer is recommended if you’re switching colors.

You should wait three to six months after you buy it to paint pressure-treated wood. It needs time to dry from the chemicals applied to it. The paint will not adhere to the treated wood as well if it’s still wet from chemicals. To test the wooden boards, drip water onto them. If the wood absorbs the water, it’s ready for painting. If the water beads up, it’s not dry enough to paint yet. You can build your deck or fence while the treated wood is still wet, but you’ll need to paint it later.

It’s a good idea to sand your porch before painting. This will remove loose or chipped paint and debris, and give you a cleaner surface so that your new paint goes on smoothly. But if the existing surface is in good condition, it’s not necessary to sand your porch before you paint.

Yes, it's a good idea to sand the wall with fine-grit sandpaper after spackling, especially if you plan on painting. You can do this by hand or using a sander, but the idea is to ensure the spackle is flush with the wall. Sanding will give your wall a smooth, uniform finish and help your paint and wallpaper stay put.

Here's the deal with leaving used rags covered in oil-based stain lying around in a pile: Depending on the conditions, these rags can take just an hour or up to a few days to combust. The source of ignition is caused by trapped heat that can be compounded if the rags are near a heat source.
