Technically, a flat roof can be raised, but it’s extremely expensive, and there would not be much of a point. You shouldn’t put a new roof underlayment over an old one for a few reasons. Old felt must be removed in order to assess the condition of your roof decking, such as rotting wood or other structural issues. Also, if your roofer doesn't install a fresh layer of felt as is required by shingle manufacturers, your warranty may be voided. Finally, old underlayment removal is often included in the cost of roof repair or replacement, so there's no real benefit to leaving it on before installing a new layer.

The installation may have been done correctly. However, improperly installed gutter guards can easily damage your shingles. Also, cheap gutter guards rarely come with installation fixtures. In the worst cases, they simply ask you to nail the guards in, which would sabotage your roof’s water resistance and thus void the warranty. To be sure, always check with your home warranty provider before making any modifications.

Roofing replacements and repairs expose the interior of your home to the elements. Failing to protect these areas during inclement weather can cause extensive damage and job delays. Have a conversation with your pro to learn their plans to use tarps, plastic sheeting, or other waterproofing methods to keep your home safe.
