OWNED BY THE HUSBAND AND WIFE TEAM OF KIRK AND JOY MORRIS.. Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist

"They recommended laying drain pipe out in to the lawn and placing a pop up. They did this on both sides of the back of the house. When it rains it drains across the top of my lawn right down to the beach where it washes out all my sand in to the lake. I have lost massive amounts of beach sand. When I contacted them their response was they don’t control Mother Nature when it rains hard. I told them it was a bad design and I need it fixed. NO RESPONSE!! I now need to hire someone else that knows what their doing. Very disappointing."

Kitchens By Katie is a family owned business since 1989. We’ve helped over 2,000 happy customers create the kitchen of their dreams with a process called re-facing. Even though we’re using your existing cabinets we can change the whole look of your kitchen.

"I would strongly not recommend Kitchens by Katie for many reasons. I’m sharing my experience so that others have a much smoother remodel than I did. And there are a few things that were misleading, as well as some other things that I should have vetted myself but didn’t. First, there are things they DON’T do: they don’t do soft close drawers, which is a shame because that really elevates the feel of a kitchen. They also don’t remove old cabinets, you are responsible for that. They will tell you that Habitat for Humanity will come get it for free but that’s not true, it’s around $250.00. The workmanship: We were originally going to reface our cabinets in order to save the countertops from being destroyed, but decided to go with new because another contractor I know (not affiliated with Kitchens by Katie) was able to remove the countertops for the new cabinets. I should have canceled this entire job, but I didn’t want to leave the owner Mike at KbyK in a lurch. I regret that decision. Anyways, the installation: No protective plastic was draped around my kitchen so my entire house was filled with dust, which was a nightmare. The install was fine, but there are things that are part of their design that I know many customers wouldn’t like. I didn’t discover this until the job was completed. There are screw holes that show in the base of all my lowers cabinets, the drawer sides are unfinished looking complete with pencil marks and splintered wood pieces. The hole gaps for the pipes were not custom fitted so things would fall through the base of the cabinet. I pointed this out and their “fix” was filling it with yellow foam which overflowed and shows when you open the cabinets. Overall these cabinets are fine, but they don’t feel finished and don’t feel elevated in quality. As for the owner, i say proceed with caution. Mike has a condescending demeanor, and I have seen other reviews where people noted this. I had a meeting with his team after the job was completed to address the issues and he had a very difficult time keeping his composure. My husband even asked him to stop speaking poorly to me. Bottom line, if you are looking to remodel a kitchen, hire a contractor that can do all the other things, like disconnect and reconnect the water lines, etc. They aren’t required to reinstall your microwave, but they did that for me at least. It’s important to think about all these little things. I would say if you have a completely new build and are starting the full build out of a kitchen, then MAYBE Kitchens by Katie could be part of this mix, but why not just hire a contractor that does it all? If you need refacing, then possibly K by K, but you run the risk of destruction of backsplash and countertops (which happened to me, and Mike did fix, but the fix has so many flaws. I’m just moving on from this mess). Please consider everything here before hiring. I regret this decision. My contractor is coming back in to install soft close drawers, by the way. Mike quoted me $100.00 per drawer at 15 drawers. My contractor is only charging me $400.00 to fix. Please, please learn from my mistakes."

Harder Construction LLC is a family owned and operated business run by father and son Bruce A. and Bruce S. Harder. Both take pride in being hands on building professionals not simply general contractors. From first meeting until completion of a job one of the Bruces will always be there to answer questions and make sure jobs stay on schedule. Bruce A. founded Harder Construction LLC in 1994 with his top priority being customer satisfaction. This approach is the reason that 90% of our jobs come from previous customer referral or recommendation. Son, Bruce S. Harder, has been involved in building trades since he was a teenager. After completing college at Michigan State University he began working full time for the family business. The two work together as an exceptional team. Bruce A. provides an expansive knowledge on building industry and residential projects; while son Bruce is schooled in current building methods, products, and technical trends. Both father and son are licensed and insured residential contractors. Harder Construction LLC has received Parade of Homes awards and been had homes featured in print as well. For more information please visit our website (www.harderconstructionllc.com), visit us on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Harder-Construction-LLC/184421268243792?ref=ts&fref=ts), or give us a call at (616) 457-2193.

"Most of the work was performed by two young guys in their 20s. They were noticeably high and smelled like marijuana almost every day they were here. Within weeks the shower was leaking into the wall and causing mold and mildew on the other side of the wall. Water is still getting into the wall and under the flooring. If you want work performed by Cheech and Chong hire these guys. If you want work done by people who aren't high, you and may have to go somewhere else."

"Very happy with the entire process. Communication was great and Eric even brought Reggie to house the day before the job started to introduce him so I knew who to expect in the morning. Reggie and Cole were great. They took special care to respect my home and did incredible work. My wife and I couldn't be more pleased with the finished product."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Regular sealing, repainting, and checking for wood rot or pest infestations help maintain longevity.

Pole barns and carports are similar in that they rely on posts for support and are often not connected to a primary structure. The main difference between the two is that pole barns usually include walls that surround the entire perimeter of the structure, while carports generally remain open on three or four sides. It’s possible to insulate garage doors and even exterior walls on pole barns to create a comfortable workspace, and it’s a bit more secure for storage purposes. However, carports are more affordable.

Rather than using a common two-by-four piece of wood for a rafter, you probably will use two-by-six, two-by-eight, two-by-ten, or even two-by-twelve boards. Wider lumber is typically a better choice in a larger building as it provides more sturdiness. Some installers may use wider lumber for rafters near the edges of the roof, where the greatest stress occurs, and save money with narrower lumber toward the middle.

The costs depend on the type of wood, labor, roofing material, permits, and whether additional storage or enclosed walls are included.

New builds, remodels, and additions often necessitate professional framing expertise.
