"Fantastic! I was so happy Dana showed up on time, walked through what needed to be done with me, and got to work. He made a couple trips to the store to make sure he had the best color caulk to match our bathroom, and got the work done quickly. It looks great, and I'm so happy to finally have found someone that actually showed up and did a good job!"

"Frank and RenoBasements did an excellent job on my basement finish. They took the time to make sure all my ideas were incorporated into their thoughtful design and the finish product is far better than I ever imagined it. Their work is very clean and the crew is so kind and easy to work with. I already have recommended RenoBasements to all my friends looking for kitchen remodels or basement projects!"

"Great experience! Service was scheduled (and rescheduled due to illness) promptly and efficiently. The worker arrived at 9 and was finished by 11! The tub looks great and he gave me instructions on how to keep it looking good and about the warrantee. I wanted a no-fuss, low stress experience, and I just wanted the tub fixed before bath season. I got everything I wanted and I would recommend Michigan Bathtub Refinishing, LLC!"

"Remodel went great. Mark and his team do beautiful work. They had good design suggestions when we weren’t quite sure what we wanted. They came when they said they would and cleaned up everyday so you wouldn’t have known they had been there. Communication was open and it was easy to get ahold of Mark when we needed to. We were very comfortable with them coming and going and trusted them in our home if we couldn’t be there. We would highly recommend this company and would certainly contact them again if we plan anymore home remodeling."

Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel questions, answered by experts

To make a bathroom look bigger, choose light-colored, medium- to large-format tiles. Light colors such as white, cream, or light gray make a space feel more open, while dark colors, busy patterns, and small tiles can make a bathroom feel smaller. It may seem counterintuitive, but small tiles can shrink a room visually due to the increased number of grout lines. Using medium- to large-format tiles creates a more seamless look. For the best effect, pair your light-colored tiles with a matching or similarly colored grout. This minimizes the grid-like pattern and gives the floor and walls a more continuous, uninterrupted appearance, helping the room feel significantly larger.

DIY is possible, but professional designers ensure functional layouts, high-quality materials, and compliance with plumbing codes.

Whether you need a permit to demo your bathroom depends on the project scope and local regulations. Major structural changes require a building permit, like pulling down a load-bearing wall or removing lead paint or asbestos from an old bathroom. If you’re relocating plumbing, you might need permission to cap off the existing water and sewer lines. Because requirements vary by municipality, if there’s any doubt, always check local building department rules.

Labor is the most expensive part of a bathroom remodel. If you’re doing a major remodel, structural changes (such as moving walls) and plumbing reconfiguration can be costly. For a standard remodel, the big-ticket items include tiles and new tub or shower fixtures.

Professionals ensure compliance with building codes, optimize design functionality, and manage the project efficiently, minimizing stress and error risks.
