Emergency services offered

"We hired Primo Contracting for tuck pointing the cement grote on our home built in 1992. Repairs were done at the garage door, back entrance and most of the window sills and various spots that I'd identified. He came out the same day to inspect work we wanted done, provided a written estimate 2 days later and scheduled work to be done 2 weeks later. Repair work, finish and cleanup were completed very professionally."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

For fireplace service projects in Port Huron, keep chimney brushes and creosote-removal tools ready to combat fast buildup caused by lake moisture. You should also stock mortar patching materials to address masonry cracks from severe freeze-thaw cycles. High winds make chimney cap inspection tools essential, and a long burning season requires sturdy ash removal tools. Finally, keep draft testing supplies handy to manage downdrafts unique to this coastal region.

Helpful?

Hidden moisture damage from the lake-adjacent climate causes surprise expenses during fireplace service projects in Port Huron. Professionals regularly uncover deteriorated mortar, rotted wood framing, or extensive freeze-thaw spalling that requires structural rebuilding. You face extra expenses if workers discover outdated, unlined chimneys in older homes, animal nests requiring remediation, or asbestos insulation that demands specialized removal by certified specialists.

Helpful?

Routine cleaning and inspections take one and a half to three hours, though you must book weeks ahead during the busy Port Huron fall season. Installing a chimney liner takes six to eight hours, extending to two days for historic homes. Masonry repairs require four to eight hours. Remember to factor in five to ten business days for local permit processing before beginning major fireplace service projects.

Helpful?

When tackling fireplace service projects, choose refractory mortar rated for freeze-thaw resistance to withstand extreme MI winters. Always install stainless steel chimney liners and caps, as they resist corrosion from high lake humidity far better than galvanized options. Use high-density firebrick for primary heating fireboxes. Apply masonry-rated waterproofing sealants to protect your chimney from heavy lake-effect precipitation and prevent premature structural deterioration.

Helpful?

After completing fireplace service projects, inspect the system visually before your first seasonal fire to ensure no weather-related damage occurred. Monitor the surrounding masonry for water stains or white mineral deposits, which indicate moisture intrusion common in MI. Test your chimney draft to ensure safe airflow against strong lake winds. Finally, check your carbon monoxide detectors and schedule a final inspection with local authorities if you pulled a permit.
