"Mr. Water Treatment, Holly, MI, did a complete and precise job replacing our water system. They explained the water system and why each part was necessary in everyday language which created trust and helped us make a well-informed purchase. They also improved the speed and taste of our RO water tap by suggesting a separate pump and minerals. We had them installed and we are very glad we did. Mr. Water Treatment, Holly, MI, staff are honest and dependable. They stand behind their work and are easy to work with. We are very pleased with our new water system, and we are happy to have met staff of Mr. Water Treatment, Holly, MI."

"Scott and his team were the best!  From the time we called and met with him, he did exactly what he said he was going to do.  He called when he said he would and came out to the house on time every time.  He took care of all the permits with the county when other contractors we had called expected us to take care of that.  They were very considerate, took their muddy boots off every time they came into the house.  I highly recommend Ries Well Drilling. They took their time to do a neat job and made the project as mess free and painless for us as it could be.  The quality of water and pressure we have now compared to before is outstanding.  If you need a new well, don't hesitate to call them!

"They have done 5 jobs for me they are just great and customer service is great! I thought I needed a new water heater and instead it was a 20 dollar part that needed replaced and everything works well. I appreciate that I did not feel taken advantage of. They also replaced my 96 year old father's water heater and had to move the furnace to get to the water heater and they did all that extra work without complaint."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Generally, it is safe to bathe in yellow water, as the color is often caused by iron, tannins, or rust, which won't harm your skin. Soap will still clean you effectively, though the water might leave stains. However, if the water has an unusual smell or you suspect contamination, avoid bathing and contact a plumber for an inspection. A professional can also help if you find bathing in yellow water problematic and want to determine how to get your water clear again.

Yes. To get soft water, you can install a water softening system, which will replace the calcium and magnesium ions in the water with sodium or potassium ions. Water softeners cost anywhere from $200 to $6,000, depending on the size and complexity of the system. You can either install a water softener for the whole house or just at your shower heads. If you’re sensitive to sodium or potassium, you can install a salt-free water conditioner.

Whether you need a permit or license for a water softener installation depends on your location, as requirements vary significantly. Some municipalities require the installer to hold a plumbing license, some mandate a permit and an inspection, and others require both. In some areas, no special permit or license is needed at all.

To determine the rules in your area, you can contact your local building department or consult a local water softener installer or plumber. Often, only certified professionals are authorized to pull the necessary permits, and they will typically handle the entire permitting process for you. Regardless of local laws, it is always recommended to hire a licensed professional to ensure the system is sized and installed correctly. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to check an installer’s license status.

Yes, you can have both a water softener and a water filter. In fact, some manufacturers sell dual water softening and filtration systems that treat hard water and provide clean drinking water. If you’re unsure about what you need or want to discuss your options, reach out to a local water softener installation company.

You can install a water softener system by turning off the water supply, draining the water, and then connecting your device to the waterline. Next, you’ll fill your tank with the recommended amount of salt or brine (whichever your unit calls for; be sure to read the instructions). Turn the water supply on and check for leaks. You can opt to let your water run for a few minutes, then test it using strips.

The process of inspecting your water softener system is similar.
