"When no one locally even responded to my inquiries for a quote, Michelle got back to me the same day with a quote and description of how the repair would be done. It's a slight downside to have to ship one glove coast to coast for a minor repair on one finger. But the cost of shipping and the repair is much less than purchasing another $100 pair of gloves! The repair took a little longer than anticipated, but shipping time had to be factored in as well. Michelle was very prompt with communications during the process. Cost of service below did not include shipping which was about $16 round trip. The glove returned good as new...well as good as it's pair. The glove is two years old. But the seam was totally resewn and reinforced. Michelle stated she did not want to the issue to happen again. I hope it won't. The problem started with my fingers rubbing. Very happy with the service from Premier. I wish they had a shop in Maryland!"

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

When hiring an upholstering pro in Lansing, check for experience with furniture restoration and knowledge of materials suited to Michigan’s climate. Review their portfolio for similar projects, ask for local references, and request a detailed written estimate. Ensure they offer pick-up and delivery, provide clear communication, and outline warranty terms. Reliable pros will discuss fabric selection and timeline expectations specific to Lansing’s seasonal changes.

Helpful?

In Lansing, be cautious of quotes lacking itemized details on labor and materials, or those that seem unusually low. Avoid professionals who don’t provide references, insurance, or a physical business address. Reliable upholsterers will offer fabric samples, clear contracts, and realistic timelines. If a pro demands full payment upfront or can’t address Lansing’s climate-specific challenges, consider other options for your furniture restoration needs.

Helpful?

Lansing’s humid summers can lead to fabric stretching and potential mold, while dry winters may cause leather or wood frames to crack. These fluctuations make fabric selection crucial—opt for synthetic blends or moisture-resistant materials. Schedule major upholstery projects in spring or fall to avoid extreme temperatures, and position furniture away from direct sunlight or heating vents to extend its lifespan in Michigan’s climate.

Helpful?

In Lansing, start with upholstering your main sofa or sectional, as these pieces anchor your living space and see the most use. Next, consider dining chairs and entryway benches, which quickly show wear from Michigan’s variable weather. Updating accent chairs or ottomans with moisture-resistant fabrics can help protect against Lansing’s humidity and temperature swings, making your furniture more durable and inviting year-round.

Helpful?

In Lansing, look for fabric that’s faded, split at seams, or smells musty—these often result from humidity or sun exposure. Sagging cushions, uneven padding, or noisy springs suggest deeper structural issues. If patterns don’t align or the fabric feels loose, the previous upholstery job may have been rushed. Furniture over a decade old or showing visible wear is a strong candidate for professional reupholstering.
