"The whole job went very smoothly. Derek was very professional, and came here to work. We have been searching for a local handyman to take care of projects around our new home, and we believe we found the right guy for the job. Will hire again! Did excellent work"

The job is only done when it's done right, it's not only common courtesy, it's common sense.

Chimney Repair questions, answered by experts

Metal roofs do not technically require a drip edge if the roof overhangs at least one inch, because the roof's slant will cause water to flow away from the structure. But a drip edge would be an added level of protection for a metal roof to help keep moisture issues at bay.

In the metal versus shingle roof debate, aluminum roofing has several advantages. However, aluminum roofing costs more than typical asphalt roofing, so up-front cost is a major downside. Aluminum is also somewhat susceptible to denting, and repairs can be more costly than for other roof types because your roofer will need to replace large panels rather than individual shingles. Aluminum roofs are also noisy in the rain, which some homeowners don’t like.

Moss grows in dark areas of roofs, including in corners and gutters. If left alone, it can grow under roofing and cause permanent damage. Here’s how to remove moss from metal roofs

  • Soak the moss to soften it

  • Scrub it away with a soft-bristled brush, or pick it off with your hands (be sure to wear gloves)

  • Use a moss remover that’s compatible with metal roofing, following the manufacturer’s directions

  • Remove dead moss and rinse the roof thoroughly

  • Prevent future moss growth by trimming branches, cleaning gutters, and attaching zinc strips to moss-prone areas

A metal roof can last anywhere from 15 to 100 years or more, depending on the type. Aluminum and corrugated metal roofs last around 45 years, but tin roofs can last for up to 75 years, and copper roofs can last 100 years or more.

The lifespan of a roof patch depends on which materials you use and the severity of the damage. Temporary solutions like tarps or plastic sheets last a few weeks to a few months, while roofing tape or caulk may hold up for a year or two. Permanent patches using roofing cement, flashing, or replacement shingles can last several years as long as they're properly maintained. Regular inspections and touch-ups can extend the patch’s lifespan, but eventually, a full repair or replacement would be needed.
