"Steve has installed a 2 foot and 4 foot grab bars in our bathtub for safety reasons. Steve has removed and installed 2 new toilets in our bathrooms thereby saving us lots of water and $$. Steve picked up, delivered and installed 8 13-foot 2X6 on our deck that were rotting. Steve has also given me a very fair quote to remove our bathtub, fixtures, tiles surrounding our bathtub, old linoleum and subfloor. We hope to get a very basic surround shower, new fixtures, new linoleum and subfloor. This should make our bathroom a lot safer. If you have any questions about Steve, please give me a call or text me Paul @616-292-5220."

"Machtemes DBR completed a long punch list of handyman services on my home including soffit construction and gutter repair, heat coil installation for our roof line to address a persistent ice dam issue, porch roof assessment and repair, exterior door installation, finish work including baseboards and trim around windows and doors, and attic insulation. Jon the head contractor showed extensive and wide ra ging knowledge and expertise. His detail work was exceptional. He was able to perform tasks we requested but also was able to troubleshoot problems we didn't know how to solve, suggesting several options for us to consider. The work he did for us has lasted years showing no wear and tear. Would recommend him again."

"Extremely well. James was very professional. He answered questions via phone/e-mails quickly. His pricing was competitive. He even offered the solution to grout the gap left on the tiled floors after removing the old baseboards so that the new ones would sit level with the floor. No one else offered this solution. You still have to grout at the end because there will still be a gap because the tile is not level, but a lot less work due to the first step. Workmanship was great. He worked steady and was neat and clean. Finished my house in 2 days."

"Before moving out of state, I hired Vinyl Sharks LLC to do a remodel of my basement. Justin and his crew of extremely knowledgeable guys came in and got it done! I did get photos of the job they did, but lost my Camera during my move to New Jersey. If I could hire then here at my new house, I would with no hesitation, and with no worries about the quality of work being done. Stop wasting your time looking for guys to get the job done, because Vinyl Sharks LLC are THE ones."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Whether it’s less expensive to build or buy a closet depends on both the type of closet and whether or not you’d be constructing it yourself. The cost of custom closets built by a pro ranges from $1,300 to $3,800, but you may be able to DIY it for as little as $400. By contrast, prefabricated options go as low as $200 and up to $3,000, so it’s almost always less expensive to go this route.

On average, building a custom or built-in closet costs around $2,100. However, the total price can range from as little as $500 for a simple DIY project to $6,000 or more for a large, high-end custom closet. Most projects typically fall between $1,500 and $5,000.

The final cost depends on several factors, including the closet's size, type, materials, and features. Here is a general cost breakdown by closet type:

  • Reach-in closet: $500 to $1,500

  • Walk-in closet: $750 to $5,000

  • Wardrobe: $2,000 to $6,000 or more

Choosing a prefabricated closet system is generally less expensive than a fully custom build. The scope of design and construction services will also significantly impact the price.

Bedrooms and living rooms generally cost the least to remodel. Of course, the project price will depend on what you're planning to do to the space and the cost of the materials you choose to incorporate. Prices are typically lower than those of other remodels because major plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work isn't often part of remodeling these rooms.

If you’re on a tight budget, the least expensive material you can buy for DIY closet shelves is chipboard, a.k.a. particle board. This inexpensive material is made from a pulp of sawdust, resin, and glue that’s pressed together under high temperature and pressure. As you can imagine, it’s not very sturdy and might buckle under your blue jean collection, so you should only use it if you’re storing very light items.

Custom closet renovations offer a return on investment of 50% to 60%. This means that if you spend $2,000 on a closet remodel, you can expect to see your home's value increase by $1,000 to $1,200. Investing in a custom closet allows you to enhance your daily living experience while building equity.
