He drove 40 miles to get to our house, but did not charge extra. The quoted price was a flat-rate fee for chimney cleaning, but he actually provided much more. He identified a missing weight on the fireplace flue and rather than sell us something expensive, helped us fix it inexpensively. He identified some cracks in the fireplace masonry, but we discussed it and he felt like it was something I could easily fix myself, so gave me instructions on the proper materials to buy. He also instructed us in the use of the fireplace and stove and gave us several very clever tips on reversing a downdraft in the chimney, to how to handle the ash pit. He inspected the chimney caps, but advised us that it would be more logical to wait for replacement of the caps until our furnace was replaced, as a liner kit would have to be installed to bring us up to code and that included a cap, so putting a new one in now would be a waste of money. The other two caps he advised us to wait until next year. This wealth of logical, practical advice was much appreciated. As a final courtesy, he even adjusted our screen door on the way out, as it was not closing properly. Eli was great! He cleaned 2 wood burning fireplaces and capped the chimney. Communicated well with me. He thoroughly inspected it all and fixed cracks where needed to ensure everything safe and sound. Fair pricing. Highly recommend.

I was very pleased with the quality of the work and the clean-up by the roofing crew. Then Bill came the following day to install new wall flashing and seal the chimney. Everyone was very professional and friendly.

"I had service performed 7 days ago on March 30th to remove/prevent birds from entering my dryer vents. The service ended up being different (less) than what was initially estimated. I contacted Michigan Wildlife Solutions the same day for the difference as I had already paid half of the estimate to get started. I was told I would be contacted by the office manager. On Friday of the same week, I called back because I had not received the call from the office manager nor had I gotten a refund. At that time, I also noticed that my credit card had been charged for the balance of the original estimate even though a second payment had not been authorized. When I called Michigan Wildlife Solutions, I was told that the balance is automatically charged after the work is completed. This was totally inconsistent with the electronic invoice I received that indicated a pay by date for the balance. In fact, I also received a mailed invoice requesting the balance to be paid, not indicating that I was already charged for the balance. I waited until Wednesday (4/6) to call back as I wanted to be patient and allow the process to happen. However, after 5 business days, I still have not heard from the office manager who was supposed to be in touch a week ago. I called back on 4/8 because at this point, I am NOT getting the service and respect as a customer that I deserve. I was given the office manager’s direct phone number (the email communications give a different number that says is for the office manager). I called Brooke-the office manager and left a voicemail message. Three hours later, I have not received a call back so I called again and was sent to voicemail. As there are several other neighbors in my subdivision that have the same bird issue, I would NEVER use this business again nor would I EVER refer a neighbor to use Michigan Wildlife Solutions. If I do not hear back from someone by the end of the business day today, I will be contacting an attorney to get me the refund that I am entitled to for work that has not been completed because it was not needed."

Small construction company. Billing varies depending on the job.
"We hired Mr. Barnett to fix a steep driveway. He and his crew were excellent! They were very detail minded and even did a few 'extras' that they thought would help us out. The crew was knowledgeable and friendly. They explained everything as they did the work. They did all of this at a great price. I would HIGHLY recommend them!!"

"Shawn arrived early for the appointment to clean and inspect the chimney. He was supposed to return a week later to make the repairs. He didn't call and didn't show. We tried numerous times to call and email with no reply (one of the phone numbers is disconnected, the other goes to an automated message). Our check has been cashed for the cleaning but at this point we don't really trust that is was done. We are looking for a new company to clean and fix the chimney."

FAQs for chimney cap service projects in East Lansing, MI
Chimney caps may be installed by a few different professionals, including a chimney sweep or a mason that specializes in fireplaces and chimneys. A gas fireplace technician is the best person to install a chimney cap on a gas log fireplace vent to be sure the cap is appropriate for the application.
A chimney cap costs about $300 on average. The prices range from about $75 to $1,000, depending on the material, size, any repairs needed, and if your chimney cap requires custom fabrication. Chimney caps are usually made from galvanized steel, copper, or stainless steel. Additional costs may include hiring a chimney sweep to clean the chimney before a cap is installed.
Help reduce energy bills by helping regulate your home’s temperature
Typically, a chimney cap will last from three to 25 years. This wide range is due to variables like climate, the material the cap is made from, and how often you use your fireplace. Regular inspections and maintenance can help extend the life of your chimney cap.
The best style of chimney cap for a brick chimney is one that fits tightly around the brick top of the chimney. The cap should have a screen to fully enclose it to keep animals out. The best materials include stainless steel, copper, or aluminum that fit tightly or are custom fabricated for a perfect fit on your chimney.
