Took it to Best Buy geeks first, wanted $179. to fix, no guarantee they could. Then to Staples tech, $159., no charge if they couldn't fix. They couldn't figure it out. Both places suspected motherboard, & with a Vista computer, it wouldn't be worth putting money into it (my call). Was practically resigned to buying a new computer, but had seen some good reviews of Vertex on Angie's, so gave them a try. Tech immediately noticed a bad cap (why didn't the other guys?), & said they charged $59.95 to diagnose, $89.95 total if it was only the cap. Thought, what-the-heck, $60. bucks to know for sure if I needed a new computer. Why not. Later they called to say they found a bad power supply, $120. total to fix (included the diagnostic fee, installing new power supply, & he threw in the cap for free). So, I didn't NEED to buy a new computer! Was very happy all around with the service & experience. Felt I could trust these guys.

Computer was making grinding noises on start-up. Vertex ran tests and cleaned inside the box. Could not duplicate the problem. Did (and charged me for) exactly what they said they would do. Appreciated that there was no hard sell for new (unneeded) components or unnecessary work. An honest and straightforward interaction. Wish more vendors were like that.

This is not my first experience with Vertex and I should have written something before this.
This service was completed from the time I brought my PC in at 10 am to 5 pm the same day.
But, over the weekend my desktop PC failed to boot up, even though my primary drive is a Solid State drive.
That means, I had no access to anything on that drive, to back up or save or anything.
Vertex RESCUED my failed Sold State boot Drive in my primary PC and were able to move everything to a new drive so that my complete OS and all preferences and favorites and settings are EXACTLY the same as they were the minute before my drive failed.

At first they hooked it up to various and quot;machinesand quot; and couldn't even see that my disk and quot;existedand quot;! But ----They kept trying. After about 4 or 5 different and quot;machinesand quot; to hook it up to it was recognized. From there they could not only retrieve the information on that drive but also move it to a new boot drive that would duplicate everything, every setting, every favorite, every little tweek I had ever done, so that my reunion with my computer was completely seamless.
Most of the other services available around here would have tried once or twice and said I was and quot;out of luckand quot; and then replaced the drive, but would have caused me months of trying to recover lost settings and passwords, etc. (I keep my data on other drives so I was fine with pictures, records, etc.)
I have had past experiences with Vertex over the past 4 years and they have been brilliant.
Once, my computer that was a Win7 OS started to boot in XP. Really??!! They fixed that
Once, I needed to update my whole system and I brought them my box and they rebuilt the whole thing, saving the parts that were still good. Brilliant and Beautiful.
Do they cost more than other services?? I think they do a little bit, but it is worth every penny to me knowing I will get skilled and intelligent top of the line service. If you don't want that, go to someone cheaper.
I have average to above technical knowledge (at least for my age group). I have built my own computer in the past but I don't work in the IT field and often need help . I have gone to some of the chain stores when I had a problem and tried to get some help for things I didn't know how to fix. I know enough to know when and quot;theyand quot; don't know what they are doing. These guys at Vertex know what they are doing...
I refer everyone who asks me about fixing a computer to this group at Vertex.
CONS: I read some other reviews, not all here on Angie's List, and heard that people felt they were rude or unfriendly. Here's the deal: these guys are computer experts, not social workers. One or two of them might not make smiling and small talk a regular practice and instead just converse with you about the technical things and just speak practical. I recommend that you celebrate their expertise and get over the rest for the sake of your computer (have you ever watched Big Bang Theory) and realize that you are there to get the best help in town for your technology.
Would you complain if you had a brilliant doctor that saved your life but was a bit impersonal, or would you wish you had the warm and fuzzy doctor that helped you feel good while you got sicker and maybe died?
I will ALWAYS take my computer needs to Vertex and trust their business.

VerThey took my poor, dead gaming PC and not only fixed it for a reasonable price, they gave me good info for upgrading it to run some newer games that I wanted to play. They kept me informed all along the way. I couldn't be happier.

I took the machine in at 10:00 am. I told the technician that my Norton anti-virus had identified a particular virus and told him the syptoms that my laptop was experiencing. The shop called me in the mid afternoon and said the computer was ready for pick-up.. I stopped in at 4:00 pm that same day. the tech informed me of the virus was deep in the resitry, but they had deleted it. My computer has run well ever since.

I just felt that they were honest and were not the best buy. They came to me by a friend that had a couple of teenage boys in college and kids can be really rough on computers. When I needed it repaired and did not want to get ripped off, she was one of them that I checked with and responded. I felt that they were fast and were a very small operation. They seemed to know what they were doing and the price and service was fair. They did the work in 24 hours. I spent $90 on that service and compared to what my friends pay in another place that a lot of people go to, I would give price a B.
