"Very well. As part of the service, the chimney sweep went on my roof and inspected the second chimney that handles the exhaust from my furnace. He explained what was causing my bricks to spall, and offered a solution. He was prompt, courteous, and effecient. I will use them again."

"Arbor Brickworks crew came out to inspect the chimney. They tried to sell me a limestone cap for $2500 but I told them I just wanted the $299 coupon deal that they were running. They were fine with that. They sealed the space between the metal chimney and the concrete cap and then sealcoated the entire top of the chimney cap. Well worth the price because I didn't have to get up there and do it myself!

"Nosh did a fantastic job.  He arrived promptly at 8, confirmed what I wanted then set about his business with repairs.  When he was done with the work (and cleaning up) he walked me through all of the work he did and answered a few other questions I had.  He was gone by Noon and now I have a chimney cap that will last for many years."

"Len and Les arrived on time. Did a quick walk around the house. Installed the tall ladder and got on the roof. Started taking digital pictures and applying the glue to hold the shingles in place. Replaced the rubber cap surrounds for the venting outlets one by one. I have requested a dark brown cap that matched the exterior of the roof instead of the standard black caps. Len has courteously accommodated my special and unusual request. He had to go to home depot to get a dark brown cap instead of the black caps that he typically uses. Adter the roughly 5 mile drive he came back and installed the new cap. Les had continued to work on the roof pointing out the issues with the shingles and soffits. He diligently answered all my queries and questions patiently. Lombardo restoration is an excellent source for home roofing repairs as well as other handymen tasks. I highly recommend Len and Les for any home restoration task. They are friendly, trust worthy professionals who go out of their way to satisfy the customers. More importantly they are patient with your questions and provide reasonably priced quotes for any repair task. Do plan to use them for my home painting project next."

Chimney Caps questions, answered by experts

Yes, with features like LED lighting and variable speed controls for efficiency.

Smooth galvanized metal ducting is best and safest for venting a hood range. It’s best to avoid flexible and corrugated types of ducting, as these options don’t provide ample airflow and may not meet local code. For specific advice on which type of duct might be best for your kitchen, reach out to a range hood installation professional.

No, range hoods do not necessarily have to be vented outside. Ductless or non-vented range hoods are available, which are common in condos or small kitchens where connecting to external ductwork isn't feasible. These hoods operate by taking in air, filtering it through charcoal filters to help eliminate smoke and odors, and then recirculating the cleaned air back into the kitchen. However, while these recirculating hoods are more versatile, venting to the outside is still the preferred and more effective method for completely removing smoke, odors, and gases from the room.

A range hood is an exhaust fan for your kitchen, and several types and styles exist. They are meant to remove grease, moisture, and fumes from your stove. Although some models filter and recirculate the air, the most effective ones remove the air through a duct that’s vented to the outdoors.

Regular cleaning of filters and checking ducting ensures effective operation.
