DON'T be put off because Victor's is a small company that you've never heard of, you don't see their yard signs plastered all over every street corner and intersection in your town, and you don't see 1/4 or 1/2 page ads/coupons in the local "marketeer" that you get free in your mailbox. Couple years ago, I purchased an old historic home; I knew when I bought it that the roof was going to need replacement "soon". I researched, I read, I googled, I talked to tons of people who had recently replaced roofs....and then I pondered and pondered. I really dreaded the whole thing because I felt like the process of getting quotes and getting the work done was going to be like throwing myself into a shark tank. And I did get quotes...3 of them. And then I found Victor's and gave them a call for a 4th quote...kind of a "out from left field quote, from someone I've never heard of before, just to check these other 3 numbers I've got" thing. I should have called Victor's first. I would have saved myself A LOT of time. So, here's the deal... Victor's Roofing is run by...well, Victor. It's a small, family owned and operated company out of Canton/YPSI. I believe Victor's got one crew...all employees (not subs) and many who have worked together a long time (at least by construction/roofing contractor standards). Victor's Dad is part of the crew as well and, at least on my job, was the foreman. At 55 (he volunteered his age), the guy is still climbing ladders and laying shingles; he's also the one who custom fashioned all of the flashing around the chimneys and other areas where it was required. He's an all around great guy who obviously knows just about everything there is to know about roofing! So, Victor comes out and does the estimate. He's a completely professional guy. Patient, knowledgeable. Not a high pressure sales type. You can tell he owns the company and he represents it well. I will tell you that Victor's was not the lowest bid of the 4...they were all within probably about $800-900 of each other, with Victor's being on the higher end. So, what convinced me to take a chance on a company I'd never heard of, at a higher price no less? Well, I had spent time on their website prior to the estimate and liked what I saw there; having met the owner and getting a good feeling from him, I felt comfortable going with them; and then, honestly, it came down to how genuine Victor is and the lengths that he went to ensure all my questions and concerns were addressed. I felt like he had "earned" my business vs. just coming out and doing some boilerplate estimate and answering all my questions with "blah, blah, blah". You know what I'm talking about if you've ever gotten 3 or 4 quotes for a job. The scope of work: complete tear off and re-shingle with CertainTeed Landmark shingles, install new ridge and edge vents, and replace 5 skylights. Since I had purchased the skylights separately, I was happy that Victor was amenable to installing them. The crew showed up at the appointed time and got to work. Victor's Dad and I went over the scope of the job, he explained exactly what was going to be happening, etc.... And off to work they all went. Victor himself came out to the job site a little later and checked in with his crew and me, which I appreciated. They wrapped up and pulled out of the driveway at about 4:30 that afternoon. And you could not even tell that anyone had been there...well, except for the gorgeous new roof. There was not one nail, piece of shingle, scrap of cardboard, or anything....anywhere. And I looked. I was impressed. Another thing I was impressed with....and I know this will sound trivial to some....the entire crew looked like a team. They all had on a "Victor's Roofing" shirt. They looked clean and professional, not like some ragtag group of subs or day laborers. They were all friendly and they all worked the entire day. The bottom line: the attention to detail of Victor himself and his crew, their workmanship, the extent to which they go to ensure that everything is done perfectly, the professionalism of both Victor and his crew and the fact that you can tell this is something that they love to do, the pride they take in their work....all of these are reasons why I would HIGHLY recommend that anyone looking to replace a roof in SE Michigan give Victor's a call. I seriously do not think you will be disappointed. Update: it's now March '16 and the roof looks as good today as it did the day it was installed. I've had absolutely no issues at all; not with the roof, the skylights, the venting, the gutter section...no issues.

To be honest, I was expecting the worst (but, of course, hoping for the best). They called me ahead of my appointment to tell me that they were running about 20 minutes behind, which I appreciated. The two techs who arrived looked hopelessly young --- honestly, I almost laughed out loud when I saw them. But, I'll tell you, any apprehension I had melted away quickly when I saw them get to work. Totally professional, and they really seemed to know their stuff. I did not feel like they were trying to up-sell me or anything. They inspected both the fireplace and the wood burner. FP checked out fine, which is saying something for a (nearly) 185 year home. At my request, they installed a new damper (old one was sketchy, and they were able to confirm it was showing its age once they inspected it). The wood burner will need more extensive repair, for which they are preparing a quote. They've level set my expectations that this could be costly --- oh well, it is an old chimney I guess. The wood burner chimney has 2 flues and they were both uncapped. The techs put very attractive and high quality caps on them which I anticipate will protect the chimney from water and vermin. They told me outright that it didn't make sense to clean that chimney today; they would take care of that when they came back for the bigger repairs to be made. I appreciated the fact that they did not perform unnecessary services; I really like that in a service company! All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Flue. Their techs are knowledgeable, professional and work efficiently. They took the time to explain exactly how my chimneys were set up and worked. Unfortunately, the remodeled second floor had woefully inadequate insulation and was so cold from New Year's through March that we slept downstairs on a futon during those months. 21st Century Roofing did very thorough work insulating the rafters and attic walls, adding high-density foam insulation in cavities around the second-floor windows, and caulking around windows on both floors, flashing, and gable vents. They inspected to ensure that our attic had the baffles needed to produce proper air flow and added baffles where required. They explained where our attic already had some insulation and made clear the multiple causes of the heat loss on our second floor. Besides installing the insulation, they addressed all of the other causes as well (e.g., areas that needed caulking and problems with vents previously installed). They also gave us helpful advice about roof and chimney repairs we'll need in future, the likely time frame for each, and do's and don'ts to make the repairs most effective. They answered all of our questions, before, during, and after the project. The entire crew was professional, polite, and very careful about protecting carpets, furniture, and the house generally. While installing insulation tends to produce a great deal of dust and dirt, this project left the second floor remarkably clean. The work on the insulation project took two days. But even after the first day, we were extremely impressed with the results. We were able to sleep upstairs on the night between Dec. 3 and Dec. 4 in far more comfort than we'd ever experienced on a winter night since buying the house. We've filed their business card and will definitely call them again. We've had far less positive experiences with other roofing companies, and we're delighted that we've found a company we can trust. We'll call them in future for any repair or remodeling work."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/mi/farmington/21st-century-windows-reviews-287947.htm"},"position":8},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"A ALPHA & OMEGA CHIMNEY SWEEPS","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"MI","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"SCOTT T."},"reviewBody":"The contractor arrived promptly and was courteous and efficient. FAQs for chimney cap service projects in Highland Park, MI
Chimney caps may be installed by a few different professionals, including a chimney sweep or a mason that specializes in fireplaces and chimneys. A gas fireplace technician is the best person to install a chimney cap on a gas log fireplace vent to be sure the cap is appropriate for the application.
A chimney cap costs about $300 on average. The prices range from about $75 to $1,000, depending on the material, size, any repairs needed, and if your chimney cap requires custom fabrication. Chimney caps are usually made from galvanized steel, copper, or stainless steel. Additional costs may include hiring a chimney sweep to clean the chimney before a cap is installed.
Help reduce energy bills by helping regulate your home’s temperature
Typically, a chimney cap will last from three to 25 years. This wide range is due to variables like climate, the material the cap is made from, and how often you use your fireplace. Regular inspections and maintenance can help extend the life of your chimney cap.
The best style of chimney cap for a brick chimney is one that fits tightly around the brick top of the chimney. The cap should have a screen to fully enclose it to keep animals out. The best materials include stainless steel, copper, or aluminum that fit tightly or are custom fabricated for a perfect fit on your chimney.
