"Very well. As part of the service, the chimney sweep went on my roof and inspected the second chimney that handles the exhaust from my furnace. He explained what was causing my bricks to spall, and offered a solution. He was prompt, courteous, and effecient. I will use them again."

"Our Chimney sweep, Jason, did and excellent job. First he inspected up on the roof top. Then he cleaned and did a safety inspection of our gas insert. He explained what he found and how we can use our fireplace more safely. He answered our questions and gave recommendations for our future fireplace remodel."

"Nosh did a fantastic job.  He arrived promptly at 8, confirmed what I wanted then set about his business with repairs.  When he was done with the work (and cleaning up) he walked me through all of the work he did and answered a few other questions I had.  He was gone by Noon and now I have a chimney cap that will last for many years."

"Chris did a great job! First, he responded to our request immediately and when we told him our problem, he said he’d take care of us the following day. He was prompt, polite and respectful of our property. He also humanely removed the squirrel from our fireplace and said he’d release him into his own backyard. In addition, when he inspected our chimney, he acknowledged that the job needed more than he could do, explained why and suggested we contact a chimney service. The price was also reasonable. We would definitely hire him again and I would recommend him to my neighbors."

FAQs for chimney cap service projects in Melvindale, MI

Chimney caps may be installed by a few different professionals, including a chimney sweep or a mason that specializes in fireplaces and chimneys. A gas fireplace technician is the best person to install a chimney cap on a gas log fireplace vent to be sure the cap is appropriate for the application.

A chimney cap costs about $300 on average. The prices range from about $75 to $1,000, depending on the material, size, any repairs needed, and if your chimney cap requires custom fabrication. Chimney caps are usually made from galvanized steel, copper, or stainless steel. Additional costs may include hiring a chimney sweep to clean the chimney before a cap is installed.

Yes, it’s worth capping a chimney. Here are several reasons to install a chimney cap:

  • Keep out rain, snow, wildlife, and other debris

  • Help prevent chimney fires

  • Reduce your chimney’s exposure to moisture

  • Maintain your chimney flue liner

  • Help reduce energy bills by helping regulate your home’s temperature

Typically, a chimney cap will last from three to 25 years. This wide range is due to variables like climate, the material the cap is made from, and how often you use your fireplace. Regular inspections and maintenance can help extend the life of your chimney cap.

The best style of chimney cap for a brick chimney is one that fits tightly around the brick top of the chimney. The cap should have a screen to fully enclose it to keep animals out. The best materials include stainless steel, copper, or aluminum that fit tightly or are custom fabricated for a perfect fit on your chimney.
