"TimberRidge Pro did a fine job on our master bath renovation . AJ was great at offering ideas and suggestions for products to use. He actually met us at Home Depot to help us make choices! That was VERY impressive! He began our job 2 weeks early (what contractor does that?) and had all of our products ready to go. He covered all of the areas leading to the bathroom and kept the job site neat and clean. That is also a biggie, because many contractors and their helpers leave messes! Not TimberRidge Pro! They clean up their worksites as if they were their own homes. After 6 days, we had a new entire shower, vanity with lighted mirror, sink and quartz sinktop, new luxury vinyl flooring, all new lighting, a plumbing problem from the old shower resolved, a new access panel to the shower installed, and the bathroom painted nicely. We had an issue with the glass shower door. It came in defective from the supplier. AJ obtained a new shower door that was much sturdier, tore out the bad one and replaced it with a much better door. (We split the cost of the upgraded glass door). AJ honored all of the line items in our contract and totally took care of some minor things on our punch list with ease. His price was reasonable and our new master bath looks amazing! We would highly recommend TimberRidge Pro for your next bathroom project and we would certainly use this contractor again!"

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Failure to compact the soil during construction is the most common cause of leaning retaining walls. In addition, poor drainage can lead to excessive water pressure behind a retaining wall, pushing against it until it begins to move forward away from the soil it is holding back.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.
