"They showed up on time as promised. the staff were knowledgeable and polite> they let us know what they were doing and explained the outcome very well. We had a creosote build up and they assured us they could remove most of it. They did a great job and showed us the results of their work. they were very reasonably priced and I will use them in the future as my go to chimney service company."

"Was very pleased with the service. He was on time and respectful. I appreciated that he took the time to point out some cracks that needed attention on the chimney, and showed me how to do it myself. He was honest about how often the sweeping should be performed. It is clear that he cares about his customers and isn't there to rip them off. He even explained how to do the service myself if I wanted to.

"We bought a "fixer upper" in Troy in the summer of 2018 and the chimney needed a lot of work. The bricks at the bottom needed repair and the chase cover and chimney cap were rusted out. I took bids from 5 different contractors for the brick work and 4 different contractors for the new chase cover and cap. We went with Jeff for the brick work because he was very personable, he had excellent reviews on Angies, and he was the 2nd lowest bid. The only person who gave a lower bid was only slightly lower and he had virtually zero online reviews. Jeff did the brickwork for about $1,650. Other contractors with comparable online reputations wanted as much as $3,500. We went with Jeff for the chase cover and cap because, in addition to the reviews mentioned above, he was one of the few who offered to do it in stainless steel. If you look around my neighborhood you will see that as many as half of the houses have rusted chase covers and chimney caps (1990's McMansions in Troy). Ours was no different and the corrosion was so bad water was leaking into the chimney. Everything I read online and personal friends who knew construction / Home Improvement all said the same thing; if you want your chase cover to last forever get stainless steel or copper. Other contractors had cheaper bids but they wanted to do the chase cover in aluminum of galvanized steel. In some cases these bids were half the price but we prefer construction materials that last. As mentioned above we bought a home that was a "fixer upper" and needed a lot of work. We were also residing the home. Jeff was very flexible in working around the siding crew during a VERY busy season. We worked with over a dozen contractors in fixing up the home we bought. Grey Oaks was the one contractor we were 100% satisfied with and had zero regrets in hiring. I will be recommending them to friends and family."

"The Angie's List Company name is shown as JB Professional Chimney & Masonry Services. The President is Sean Harrington and the name I made the check to. Sean performed the service on one of our rental properties. He was punctual, and took great care to insure no soot or debris flew onto the flooring or walls - KUDOS! He had some very hi-tech equipment and performed the service very well. Upon completion, his camera showed a clean flu, a clean fireplace and the structural shape of the Chimney. A report was made and reviewed and a hard copy with pictures was promised but never delivered. This is the only reason I gave them a B instead of an A for responsiveness. A repair was suggested but did not think it was necessary at the time. I will revisit this at our next appointment. I would recommend using this service for all your fireplace needs."

"We selected Arbor Brickworks based primarily on their high rating on Angie's list.  Their estimate of the rather extensive work to be done on our three story chimney and rebuild of the courtyard walls and adding limestone caps to both seemed very reasonable.  They performed all the work as detailed to us in a highly professional and timely manner and within budget.  We give them our highest recommendation because we believe you will experience the same total satisfaction with their work.

"Imagine you are in the middle of painting your house and the painter refuses to repair the chimney because it was so bad. I fortunately contacted Specialty. I was given 3 weeks to review by other companies but Nosh not only came that evening, he left to look to match 50+year old bricks AND he was by my house at 7:30 the following morning AND tore down and replaced my entire chimney in less than 48 hours and did a skillful masterful job, (we are not related, I am just super happy to have contracted Specialty"

Chimney Caps questions, answered by experts

No, range hoods do not necessarily have to be vented outside. Ductless or non-vented range hoods are available, which are common in condos or small kitchens where connecting to external ductwork isn't feasible. These hoods operate by taking in air, filtering it through charcoal filters to help eliminate smoke and odors, and then recirculating the cleaned air back into the kitchen. However, while these recirculating hoods are more versatile, venting to the outside is still the preferred and more effective method for completely removing smoke, odors, and gases from the room.

You should contact a local range hood installation professional to install your range hood and do the ductwork. Prices range from $50 to $100 per hour, with the total number of hours required varying based on the project complexity. Simple installations might take an hour or two, while more complicated ones can take four hours or more.

Neglected maintenance can lead to odors, fire hazards, impaired airflow, and reduced range and hood operation efficiency.

If a range hood has minor issues, the average repair costs $85 to $210. This accounts for both parts and labor. More extensive damage can cost as much as $300 to $500, at which point it may be worth considering completely replacing the range hood.

A range hood is an exhaust fan for your kitchen, and several types and styles exist. They are meant to remove grease, moisture, and fumes from your stove. Although some models filter and recirculate the air, the most effective ones remove the air through a duct that’s vented to the outdoors.
