"Casey did a great job! He installed a top of the line water heater with a pan and a drain. He checked all the pipes and cleaned up after himself. We have used him for other projects as well."

"Everything went very well. The technician had all the parts in his truck, even though he hadn’t been given many details. Our sump well is smaller than most, but he was able to fit it in. I would’ve liked to keep the old pump, but didn’t think to make that request until after the technician left. Called the office for it, but I guess it was already disposed of. Would hire this company again."

"Needed to replace my back up sump. Shelby Mechanical actually came out and provided a quote at NO COST - very rare now of days but greatly appreciated. They provided a reasonable quote and I hired them. Paul and his team arrived on time, installed pump, and left the area as clean as they found it. Very happy with work done and would definitely recommend Shelby Mechanical for any plumbing work"

Customers say: Quick response

"Came out the day I called for a free estimate for installation of a backup sump pump. Price was the lowest of all my estimates. Kept in touch when I had additional questions. Came out on a Sunday to do the installation. Completed work in just a few hours and didn't leave any mess. Thoroughly answered all my questions when done. Would definitely use them in the future."

"Wesley responded to a home emergency immediately where our septic was backing up into the house. He even offered to come out in middle of the night, but we were able to wait until the following morning after another appointment. He kept me informed of his arrival via text which was perfect. He went above and beyond and was able to quickly identify our issue. He drained our pipes, used a camera to inspect the pipes, and identified that the septic needed to be pumped badly. In addition he dug up and removed the septic covers to confirm that would elevate our issue. He also suggested several septic pump companies that would do a weekend pump. I work in commercial construction and was very pleased with the work, time, professionalism and cost for the work Wesley Mergens performed."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

You should be fine. Most high-grade grinder pumps have a 24-hour holding capacity within the tank. You can continue to use the facilities so long as the power outage does not stretch into days. In a worst-case scenario, attach a generator to the grinder pump, providing it has sufficient electric capacity.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to move wastewater and solid waste to the municipal sewer or septic tank. However, for fixtures located below grade (e.g., in a basement), gravity is not sufficient.

The purpose of a sewage ejector pump is to actively pump this wastewater and solid waste upward into the main sewer line. Without an ejector pump in this situation, wastewater would have no way to exit and would eventually back up, causing a sewage overflow or flooding in your basement. If all of your home's plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity can handle the drainage, and an ejector pump is not needed.

A sump pump should be placed at least three feet deep in a pit. The rim of the sump pump basin should be level with your basement floor. If you find your pit is too deep, you can fill the bottom with gravel until the rim of the sump pump is flush with the floor.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to drain wastewater and solid waste into the municipal sewer system or a septic tank. For fixtures below this level, like those in a basement, gravity cannot move the waste upward. The ejector pump provides the force needed to pump the sewage up to the main line. Without one, wastewater from below-ground fixtures would back up, potentially causing a sewage overflow and flooding. If all of your plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity is sufficient and an ejector pump is not needed.

When a backflow valve fails, wastewater will flow back into your system, contaminating your drinking water. You’ll immediately notice backflow valve failure from a rotten smell and brown water coming from faucets. Get in contact with a septic pro or a plumber immediately if you suspect this has happened to you.
