"Our 3500sq ft 1890 Italianate home is both old and extravagant requiring unique carpentry repair work and 8 custom paint applications. The work involved extreme detail in Gables, Corbels, Spindles, Dentils, Posts, Bay Windows and more. We appreciated the large number of workers Reyes Builders was able to throw at the project to complete it quickly and on target with the quoted price. With 5 children at home it was also important we find a company we could trust in our home - all of the Reyes Employees were kind and professional. Mario was persistent with a 'customer first' approach when it came requests requiring attention to detail and ensured each of our requests were finished. This being a large financial project we also appreciated they warrantied their work to show they have confidence and pride in what they do. We would book future projects with Reyes Builders."

"Bob did a great job. Everything was nice and neat. Only small problem we had with him is the promise to be out to do the repair the following week, but heard nothing all week. We called him the following Monday and he explained that he had lost an employee and that he was very busy. Bob said he would be there on Friday in the afternoon. He did come late Friday afternoon and did the repair even continuing when it started raining. We are very pleased with Bob's Complete Construction."

"Original person came. We verbally agreed on $800 for the project. He worked for three days and said he was finished. We wrote him a check for $800. Upon further review, the work was awful. We put a stop payment on the check. We asked Mr. Drywall to send someone else to fix the rest of the work. Two workers came on the 4th day and did a good job but needed to come to finish sanding. Now they are disputing the money. We offered to pay the first worker $350 for his work and $350 to the two workers who came on the 4th day. They are not happy with that."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can install drywall over plaster, but there are important factors to consider. While it can create a smooth, flat surface, it is often not the best approach. Installing drywall over plaster will increase the wall's thickness, which can cause issues with existing window and door frames that may no longer fit. You might also need to adjust power outlets to keep them accessible. A better, though more expensive, option is to remove the old plaster and lath entirely before installing new drywall. Drywalling directly over plaster seals in the old material, and if any problems arise later, you will need to remove both layers down to the structural beams for repairs. Given the potential complications, this job is best handled by professionals.

Plaster provides a durable, soundproof, and moisture-resistant finish compared to drywall.

With its breathability and flexibility, lime plaster is among the most durable of all plaster types. It's also fire-resistant and has a proven track record, as people have been using it for thousands of years.

However, all plaster types will last for many years with the right care and treatment. Proper preparation and installation will also help ensure your plaster walls look great for as long as possible.

Plaster ceilings can sag for several reasons. In some cases, the plaster and other building materials shift and come apart over time, which is why you’ll commonly find drooping plaster ceilings in older homes. Improper installation, foot traffic, and water damage—often from a leaky roof or a broken pipe—can also cause plaster ceilings to sag.

While it’s most common to sand plaster dry, it is possible to wet-sand plaster, too. Doing so can reduce the amount of plaster dust released into the air and make it easier to work in smaller, more delicate areas (such as around wall trim). However, some people find that wet sanding leads to more imperfections, which is why larger walls are more often dry sanded to ensure an even finish.
