Customers say: True professional

"Very professional and efficient. I felt that communication was clear, and he made sure that I was 100% happy with the job before he left. Everything was explained clearly to me from start to finish, and he guided me on purchasing my EV charging box. I would definitely hire Jeff again for any future electrical work."

"I could not have been more pleased with Payne Electrical! From the scheduling to the installation, everyone I worked with was incredibly professional and made the whole process easy. I had two ceiling fans and a light fixture installed. The two electricians that came to my house were prompt and incredibly courteous, and very thorough in their work. They were also super kind about my small dog that wanted to keep barking at them... I would highly suggest this company to anyone in the metro Boston area, and will definitely be calling them for any future electrical needs!"

Small jobs welcome

"Roy and his crew installed a media wall for us. It was much more a construction project than electric, but they did both beautifully and managed it very professionally, cleaning up after themselves and doing an extremely precise job. Cost was reasonable compared to other quotes. They are busy, so be prepared to wait a little on scheduling and communication. We plan to hire again!"

"Josh is fair and very responsive with his crew of interchangeable professionals who are prompt and professional. My project was a huge undertaking across four apartments involving exterior panel installations and a complete rewiring of the entire building. I worked with about 6 of his crew members spanning months without any meaningful complaint and would depend on them for all my future electrical endeavors. His pricing is very fair for the quality of work you get."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Portland, address electrical issues right away if you notice sparking outlets, burning odors, frequent breaker trips, or persistent flickering lights, as these are signs of urgent safety risks. Immediate attention is also needed for outdated wiring or ungrounded outlets, especially in kitchens and bathrooms. Upgrades like adding outlets or installing landscape lighting can typically wait, but never delay repairs that impact home electrical safety.

Helpful?

Before starting electrical work in Portland, confirm you have the necessary permits and detailed project plans. Carefully vet electricians by checking licenses, insurance, and local experience. Request multiple estimates for comparison, and coordinate with your utility provider if service upgrades are needed. Schedule major projects outside of winter to avoid weather delays, and review current electrical codes to ensure your project meets all local requirements.

Helpful?

In Portland, hidden costs often arise from required permits, electrical inspections, and code compliance updates like GFCI outlet installations. Older homes may need extensive rewiring or wall repairs after removing outdated systems. Weather delays, especially in winter, can increase labor time. Coordination with utility providers for service upgrades or meter changes may also add to your project’s timeline and complexity, so plan accordingly.

Helpful?

Portland homeowners are prioritizing smart home features like automated lighting, smart thermostats, and integrated security systems. Energy-efficient upgrades, such as LED recessed lighting and modern electrical panels, are also in demand. Many are installing EV charging stations and enhancing outdoor spaces with weather-resistant lighting. For older homes, concealed wiring and USB-integrated outlets are popular ways to blend modern convenience with classic architecture.

Helpful?

In Portland, you’ll find master electricians who oversee large-scale projects, residential electricians focused on home wiring and upgrades, commercial electrical contractors for businesses, solar specialists for renewable energy systems, and emergency electricians for urgent repairs. Each type of electrical contractor brings expertise suited to Portland’s mix of historic and modern properties, so choose one whose experience matches your specific project needs.
