"Marsh River traveled over an hour to come out to my house to redo my electrical from the panel to the pole, put the wires underground (because they were not before) put a new electrical box and meter on the pole. Did a great job and knew exactly what they were doing! Just a side note: I thought the reason the outlets on the back wall of my room didn’t work was because of mice eating our wires. Whoever did the electric before must not have done it correctly because the outlets are now working!"

Customers say: True professional

"Very professional and efficient. I felt that communication was clear, and he made sure that I was 100% happy with the job before he left. Everything was explained clearly to me from start to finish, and he guided me on purchasing my EV charging box. I would definitely hire Jeff again for any future electrical work."

"I could not have been more pleased with Payne Electrical! From the scheduling to the installation, everyone I worked with was incredibly professional and made the whole process easy. I had two ceiling fans and a light fixture installed. The two electricians that came to my house were prompt and incredibly courteous, and very thorough in their work. They were also super kind about my small dog that wanted to keep barking at them... I would highly suggest this company to anyone in the metro Boston area, and will definitely be calling them for any future electrical needs!"

"I can say that Cody is a diligent worker and a competent electrician however my project was dismissed by Cody with much outstanding work still to do. As a professional in the building industry I happen to know that scheduling and coordinating the various trades is a challenge. With the roof of my building open sky, work was rescheduled and pushed back a couple of weeks. A full week prior to being on the schedule again, I reached out to postpone further because it was apparent that other work to prepare would still not be completed. This prompted a requirement to pay a $300 "rescheduling fee" before the schedule would be adjusted. Having expressed that I was not ok with the surcharge, I said I would get back to him as I further consider. Later the same day I indicated that we keep the schedule as it was, but it had already been changed and I was dismissed as a client with "I wish you the best" I have to protect my schedule and be fair to other clients. I am left stranded."

Small jobs welcome

"Roy and his crew installed a media wall for us. It was much more a construction project than electric, but they did both beautifully and managed it very professionally, cleaning up after themselves and doing an extremely precise job. Cost was reasonable compared to other quotes. They are busy, so be prepared to wait a little on scheduling and communication. We plan to hire again!"

"Josh is fair and very responsive with his crew of interchangeable professionals who are prompt and professional. My project was a huge undertaking across four apartments involving exterior panel installations and a complete rewiring of the entire building. I worked with about 6 of his crew members spanning months without any meaningful complaint and would depend on them for all my future electrical endeavors. His pricing is very fair for the quality of work you get."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired Bill to change a 15amp outlet to a 20amp. The job was more in depth than I anticipated because of the distance from circuit breaker to outlet location and the need for new wiring. We discussed discussed other location possibilities, but Bill was confident he could complete the job as I had planned. He did so with absolute confidence and professionalism. Much appreciated!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Completing electrical projects in Freeport boosts home safety and comfort by addressing humidity and salt air risks with GFCI outlets and surge protection. Upgrading wiring supports efficient heating, smart thermostats, and modern appliances, which is especially valuable during long Maine winters. Enhanced lighting brightens dark evenings, while updated systems add value and reliability, making your home more functional and enjoyable year-round.

Helpful?

In Freeport, develop a seasonal electrical inspection routine by checking outdoor outlets and lighting each spring for winter damage. In summer, test surge protectors and air conditioning circuits before storm season. Fall is ideal for inspecting heating system wiring and smoke detectors. During winter, watch for signs of ice damage or overloaded circuits, as coastal weather and freeze-thaw cycles can impact your home’s electrical safety.

Helpful?

As a new homeowner in Freeport, prioritize an electrical panel inspection, especially if your house is older or located near the coast where salt air can accelerate wear. Upgrade to GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor areas to meet code and protect against moisture. Check basement wiring for proper grounding, install whole-home surge protection for storm season, and weatherproof all exterior outlets to handle Maine’s changing climate.

Helpful?

Hidden costs in Freeport electrical projects often include permit and inspection fees, especially in older homes needing code upgrades. Additional expenses may arise from opening plaster walls, accessing tight crawl spaces, or addressing corrosion from salt air. Utility service upgrades, trenching through rocky soil, and fluctuating material availability can also impact your budget. Always plan for unexpected issues, particularly in historic or coastal Freeport properties.

Helpful?

In Freeport, be cautious of quotes that are unusually low, lack written details, or pressure you to commit quickly. Avoid professionals who don’t include permit fees, can’t provide local references, or dismiss the need for code compliance. Watch for those unfamiliar with coastal weather challenges or historic homes. Trustworthy electricians should clearly explain local code requirements and demonstrate experience with Freeport’s unique housing mix.
