Following his service in the Unites States Marine Corps in 1981, Keith Samara established his contracting business; originally Samara New Homes and Renovations. His client base gradually grew through word of mouth advertising as more and more customers became satisified with Keith's high quality work, attention to detail and professionalism. Later, Keith's pride in Corps and country compelled him to rename his business Semper-Fi Contracting. It continues to thrive largely through the praises of his clients past and present. As the name suggests, "Semper-Fi" (an abbreviation of the Latin term "Semper Fidelis" meaning "always faithful" or "always loyal") illustrates the level of commitment Semper-Fi Contracting offers each customer and project. Semper-Fi maintains a staff size appropriate to the size of current projects.

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.

A bow window costs up to $15,000 to install in total. Materials cost anywhere from $1,200 to more than $14,000, and labor is an additional $300 to $1,900. Bow window costs vary based on the size of the window and the frame material. You’ll spend more for custom features or energy-efficient upgrades, too. For comparison, bay window installation costs about $1,000 to $7,000.

Any bowing in a basement wall signals an issue that needs to be addressed. However, bowing of 2 to 4 inches is more straightforward to fix than bowing of more than 4 inches. That’s why it’s essential to call a pro as soon as you notice the bowing wall. The sooner you address the problem, the easier (and less expensive) it will be to repair.

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.
