"New Line Remodeling did an excellent job taking down an existing wall and adding a wet island where the wall was. Carlos and team did a great job relocating wires, pipes, vents and updating flooring. I highly recommend them for any contracting work needed."

"Qualified Remodelers also did our kitchen remodel and repaired our main bath. Joe has innovative ideas to bring your dreams to fruition. The staff was not only respectful of my property, they went out of their way everyday for 3 weeks to minimize dust and the inconvenience that remodeling a basement can bring when your washer and dryer are there and your spare bathroom is being remodeled as a problem arises in the main bathroom. They cleaned up their workspace every night to include mopping the floors and steps so that we could use the main bathroomâ s toilet and sink each night so we did not have to go to the basement in the night. The crew works hard and fast barely taking breaks-there is a clear sign of progress each day. They communicate each day at the start and finish and they make great suggestions and ask questions if something does not jive. We liked the kitchen remodel so much we hired them to vapor seal under our sunroom, to totally remodel our basement and when the main shower started to leak, the jumped right on it-Joe gave me a diagnosis and quote on the spot . Joe is often on site and is very easy to reach. The craftsmanship is amazing. Joe had the crew a few small details that he thought could turn out even better at no cost to us. He also entertained changes to the contract without hassle or jacking the price up for his inconvenience. They were even nice to our pup. They are a great group of seasoned professionals who are very good people. We are very happy with the results and our friends and families are plotting their next projects so they can schedule with Qualified Remodeling. Quotes are fair, clearly spelled out with a payment schedule based on progress. Most wonderfully, it isnâ t done until you are happy and it is done on schedule. No surprises."

"After seeking an initial estimate with a competitor, my wife and I asked AES to perform an estimate for a master bathroom remodel project. David Hill was assigned to our project as the lead sales representative. David met with us and quickly submitted a fair proposal (not to mention SIGNIFICANTLY lower in price than our initial estimate) to us to perform the work we were seeking in our remodel. As new customers we were pleased with the process and with the responsiveness of David throughout the project. AES uses an app, Co-Construct, which allows for transparency of the project details. It also allowed us to see status updates throughout each part of the remodel as pictures were frequently taken to demonstrate the progress of the work. Speaking to the work itself we were very pleased with the craftsmanship of our contractors, Matt and Kurt. They were very diligent and meticulous and did an excellent job, especially with the tile work involved. There were a few hiccups along the way (as with any remodel) and Matt and Kurt were very receptive and flexible in fixing the issues quickly and to our needs. In all the project took about 3.5 weeks and my wife and I are very happy with our new bathroom! We want to thank AES and all of the associates with whom we had the pleasure of working. We would definitely consider hiring AES for future home projects!"

"Eugene and his team did a fantastic job finishing our basement! The quality of their work was top notch, and their prices were reasonable compared to other contractors. They were extremely responsive throughout the entire process with any changes we requested or questions we had. The work was completed on time, and included a beautiful half bath and wall-mounted desk. They even did other small favors around our house that were outside of the finished basement, which was very convenient for us. Despite challenges presented by working through the middle of a pandemic, this did not affect their schedule at all, and we came in right at our budget. We cannot recommend Glorem enough, and would absolutely use them for any future remodeling projects!"

"I'm so glad my neighbor recommended Caleb Rodgers. His work is high quality and reasonably priced. He has done quite a few jobs for us and always left us satisfied. He remodeled our main bathroom last summer and did a fantastic job. Today he changed all our locks. Next week he will be doing our other bathroom and I'm sure that the room will look just as good as the main bathroom does now."

"Jason and his team were absolute professionals with experience and talent. Jason set expectations along the way and delivered quality work including a high-quality custom bar they built from scratch. The care and commitment from this team was exceptional. I am a career consultant and CEO of my own firm for over 12 years so my expectations are very high. Jason and his team exceeded my expectations. A few months later I asked Jason for some help repairing unrelated damage to the house. Not only did he do the work but he refused payment. If you are fortunate enough to live near the Westminster, MD location, I would not work with any other contractor for a major remodel job. Best in class."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.

Create a checklist, reimagine the space use, set a realistic budget, choose materials and aesthetic details, and get professional support for guidelines and troubleshooting.

While bathrooms and kitchens are nearly equal in terms of renovation difficulty, kitchens are the most challenging. Kitchen design, layout, electrical, and plumbing needs all depend on each other for the success of the entire project, and mistakes early in the project can cause trouble later on.

Living in a finished basement is acceptable, but only if the space has the proper points of egress and includes smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors to ensure the safety of the occupants. A good way to ensure your finished basement is suitable for use as living space is to get the basement finishing project properly permitted.

You technically can paint wires in a basement ceiling, but there are several important safety and code considerations. It's safe to paint non-metallic sheathed cable as long as the labeling remains visible. You can also paint low-voltage wires and conduit and junction boxes to help them blend into your basement.

However, you should not paint damaged or deteriorated wiring is a fire hazard because it poses a fire hazard. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.
