"At " VKB Kitchen and Bath" they are the best and I am very satisfied with their work!! I had to get my kitchen remodeled and from day 1, Calvin helped me map out how to make it more efficient by reorganizing appliances and cabinets. I was also impressed with the professionalism and customer service at the beginning and leading up to completion. Ferhat informed me of the timeframe for completion in advance and 2 weeks later I have a stunning new kitchen. I recommend them to all my friends since they can see for themselves the good job they did. Without a doubt, I will use their services again as I need more work in my house."

"I had 2 bathrooms upgraded by DMV Kitchen and Bath, and I couldn’t be happier. Lucas, the designer and overseer of the project, as well as his team were a pleasure to work with and were very flexible. Communication was excellent from initial design to completion. Lucas assisted me in choosing the products and made the selection so easy for me. I have absolutely no complaints. The workers were prompt, worked efficiently, and were very skilled. When something did come up, I was consulted, and the issue was taken care of quickly and without question. The men even did a little extra in one of the bathrooms, and I was so appreciative. Lucas and his men were very professional, detail oriented, and respected me as well as my home. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. When it comes time to update my kitchen, I will look no further than this company. They are truly fabulous to work with and do exceptional work. I highly recommend them."

"The crew was so polite and told us every step that they were doing. They found a leak on the tub water supply and fix it at no extra cost. It would give them a rating of 10 out of 5. They may be more expensive than others but it worth the cost."

"Apparently my pipes were frozen and so was my return in the tub. Patrick was amazing, came on time, was professional and worked nad cleaned after himself. Not only that but the price was very reasonable especially for a Saturday. Sadly my pipes were still frozen but he offered solutions to help. An hour after he left, water came back on and I realized the faucet had sprung a leak. I called Patrick back, he came right away, assessed and fixed the faucet (a piece of ice must have gotten in it he said), recaulked and didn't charge me for that work. I highly recommend!!!"

Percolation Tests questions, answered by experts

Even a single, one-time exposure to asbestos can be harmful and pose health risks. According to the EPA, any contact can increase the risk of developing asbestos-related diseases and certain types of cancer, although the likelihood of severe health issues increases with repeated or prolonged exposure.

The severity of a single exposure depends on factors like the duration, intensity, and concentration of the asbestos fibers. While a small amount is less likely to cause significant damage, a high concentration can lead to serious long-term lung damage. Individual reactions vary, and asbestos-related illnesses may not appear for 10 to 40 years after inhalation.

Given these risks, always take precautions around any material suspected to contain asbestos. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may not be completely effective. If you suspect asbestos is in your home, hire a professional for testing and removal. If you are worried about a potential exposure, consult your doctor.

The signs of asbestos exposure are often subtle and may not appear for many years, or even decades, after initial contact. This long latency period is one of the primary dangers associated with asbestos.

When symptoms do manifest, they can include:

  • Shortness of breath

  • A persistent, dry cough

  • Chest pain or tightness

  • Fatigue

  • Wheezing

  • Weight loss

  • Difficulty swallowing

  • A dry, crackling sound from the lungs when breathing

These symptoms are non-specific and can be mistaken for other respiratory conditions, making diagnosis challenging. Prolonged exposure can lead to serious diseases as the asbestos fibers cause scarring and inflammation in the lungs. These conditions include asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma.

Due to the vague nature of early symptoms, regular medical check-ups are crucial for anyone with a known history of asbestos exposure, particularly in an occupational setting. If you suspect asbestos is present in your home, a professional inspection is recommended.

Asbestos was most commonly produced and integrated into building products from the 1920s to the late 1980s. In reality, asbestos use should have ceased much sooner because asbestos was linked to cancer in studies produced as early as the 1950s. You can even extend that number past the 1980s due to stockpiled materials and because some countries treat asbestos use differently. It may also be found more in commercial applications than residential.

Mold, VOCs, radon, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter are typically measured.

Federal law doesn’t require homeowners to disclose the presence of asbestos in their home, but some states and local municipalities may require it. That is why it’s important to test an older home for asbestos and other health hazards before moving forward with a sale.
