"This is the second time I have used Jose and his crew for interior painting. This job involved not only painting, but removing wallpaper that had been up for over 20 years from 2 bedrooms as well as removing the popcorn ceiling in 2 rooms. - a messy job. Also had 2 bathrooms and an additional bedroom painted. They kept the dirt and dust to a minimum and cleaned up daily. They even moved furniture. To say that the work is impeccable is an understatement. This project could not have gone any smoother. Everyone was very pleasant and easy to work with."

"Taurino did a fantastic job with my interior painting and expertly handled some external repairs and painting as well. Not only did he use his discount paint card to save me a lot of money, but his pride in workmanship is clear in the quality of the results. I would gladly hire him again."

"S&J did an amazing job painting the entire interior of our home. We are the third household in my family to use them - that’s how good they are! They were extremely well priced and super flexible when I added on to the contract after they had started (which we paid for, didn’t expect them to do anything for free when I made the job bigger). We would totally use them again!"

"I have hired Mr. Mendez for five different interior paint projects, including kitchen cabinets, house interior, and condo interior to ready for renting and selling. He is amazing! "Below is the information I sent to the production team today (Tuesday November 3, 2020) and the salesman. It sums up how things went. Greetings Andrew, Sam, As we close out this process, I want to go on record with my concerns regarding the work done, as I have had the opportunity to inspect everywhere that was painted. Here are all the things observed that will be noted in my review. 1. Painter painted back and side splashes of vanities in bathroom on first floor. Even after doing touch up, he removed the paint, and then instead of putting painters tape on the vanity, he repainted the walls in the bathroom, put white caulk on the vanity when I originally had clear caulking, and repainted it. I even wrote in spanish what needed to be done, and provided it to the painter and it was still done incorrectly. I am extremely disappointed about this as now I have to incur additional costs to have the paint removed, the walls repainted, and the clear caulking put around the vanity. This is most annoying as it is the bathroom guests use when they enter my townhome. 2. There is paint in many unexpected places. The painters took the wall plates off the socket receptacles and light switches, which makes perfect sense. But why did they paint the actual receptacles and some of the switches. I indicated to Sam I was replacing the wall plates, not the actual receptacles. Now I will have to replace them as well. There is paint on many cords, not clear why they did not just unplug them, particularly the lights. I left them in so they could see. There is paint on the inside of one of the hand railings on the stairway which suggests sloppiness. The painters did not put painter's tape around the railing. There is paint on the curtain rod hooks affixed to the wall. I can see painting nails, but the curtain rods? There is paint on my wooden doors, and on windows. 3. Despite indicating in an email to Andrew, and telling the woman who called me on Wednesday October 28, 2020 that I was not available until after 3pm on Thursday October 29th , the painter showed up to do the touch ups at 8:30am on Thursday, right before my video meeting. He indicated that he was not informed by you of the time he should come. That was unprofessional. The painter ended up coming back the next day (Friday) to do the touch ups. 4. The painter had considerable difficulty taking down the blinds in the kitchen, because they had put them up incorrectly when they originally did the painting. In fact, the painter wanted to just paint around the blinds. I told him no. Not only did the painters put the blinds up incorrectly, but they also did not wait until the paint dried before putting it up, which messed up the work. Also, because the blinds were not put back up correctly, one of the strings popped resulting in the blinds not laying properly now."

"Was referred to Miguel Team after they painted the interior of my brother’s newly purchased home. Since then, I’ve hired them for multiple jobs, from newly renovated rental properties to the exterior of my own house. I’m always satisfied with their work and have received multiple compliments from friends, neighbors and other contractors. Miguel always provides expert advice when selecting paint finishes. Him and his team work fast, efficiently and are meticulously detailed. Would love to work with Miguel and his team again soon!"

Customers say: Quick response

"We have been very pleased with the many projects AW Painting has completed for us over the past 9 months including installing new interior doors, painting garage doors, shutters, and front door, painting our interior upstairs and main floor and completely renovating two bathrooms - new tub, shower, tile and fixtures. Estimates were fair and communication was easy through both email and texts. Carlos and his crew did a great job installing crown molding in our master bedroom and living room and painting our upstairs bedrooms and main floor, paying attention to details in our 50 year old home. The crew came on time each day and did an excellent job cleaning up at the end of the day. The crew comes when they are expected and each project was completed on time. Carlos and his crew were very responsive to any concerns. I strongly recommend AW Painting."

Interior Painting questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can paint over old exterior paint, but success depends on the condition of the existing paint and proper surface preparation. If the previous coating is in good shape (not cracked, peeling, or flaky), you can paint over it with less prep work. However, for the most durable and professional-looking results, follow these key preparation steps:

  • Clean the Surface: Thoroughly clean the exterior to remove all dirt, grime, and mildew. A pressure washer can be very effective for this.

  • Scrape and Sand: If the old paint is peeling, cracked, or flaky, you must scrape off all loose paint. After scraping, sand the surface to create a smooth, even base for the new paint. Sanding is especially important for wood siding.

  • Apply Primer: Using a quality exterior primer is highly recommended. It ensures the new paint adheres properly, improves durability, and provides a uniform finish. If you are painting a lighter color over a dark one, a tinted primer will help cover the old color more effectively.

Some brands offer paint-and-primer-in-one products for convenience. Taking the time to prepare the surface properly will not only increase your home's curb appeal but also help protect your siding and extend its life.

You can remove powder coating with a chemical stripper, in a burn-off oven, or by sandblasting. Chemical strippers can remove most powder coatings in 20 minutes or less. But they are harsh and must be treated with care.

Using a wire brush, forcefully scrub the surface to remove paint from metal. You’ll want to remove any lingering rust, too. For larger areas with caked-on rust, you may need to use a wire brush drill attachment. If the paint still won’t budge, apply a chemical paint stripper to the area and scrape off the paint, after following the paint stripper’s instructions.

Scrape softened caulk with a putty knife or slice hardened caulk with a utility knife. Hard-to-remove caulk generally requires more time exposed to a softening solution, like a commercial product or rubbing alcohol. A few hours to a day later, the softened caulk will come off with the help of common household tools. In many cases, you can grab needle-nosed pliers for caulk with multiple old layers and pull the material off its base.

Clean and prime surfaces before repainting to ensure adhesion and durability.
