"Luis cleaned our house siding and our sand stone patios. He did an excellent job for us. Everything looked nice and clean just the way we wanted. He also did a good job of filling in the gravel that was washed away from the sand stone patio. We would definitely hire him again if we need power washing and highly recommend him."

"Kurt was easy to reach via email or telephone. Apprised us of his approach to stripping our deck of its horrible paint coating and was upfront of the general cost during his first visit. He did need to be reminded to provide a specific contract upfront. Otherwise, deck restoration work progressed quickly once weather conditions permitted start and Kurt finished the large project within a few days."

"Excellent.  He arrived promptly at 8 am and went straight to work cleaning the inside of our windows.  (Several of the windows were in difficult to reach areas and had not been cleaned since he was here 2 years ago!). He then proceeded outside to power wash the house and garage door, then clean the outside of our windows.  He worked diligently for 4 hours. "

"This review is late in coming and that is on me. My home looks fabulous, Mike and his crew did replacement windows, sided whole house and gave me 2 new porches. Looks like a whole new house. Does top notch work and great to work with. Very professional, and treated my house like his own, had a lot of great suggestions. Mike was on the job everyday and his guys were great, and you didn't even know they were there when they left, cleaned up great. Could not beat his prices for the quality of work. I highly recommend Mike to do any job you need on your home. Will definitely be using him again."

"Estimator was excellent and seemed very knowledgeable. Provided advice about areas of my house including areas where I was not currently considering having work done and did not try to hard sell services. Was told on the phone, that the estimate fee would be credited towards the cost of work done if I had them do the work. He provided an estimate promptly by Email after visiting the house and clearly answered questions/concerns about it.

However, thats as good as my experience got.

First off, the crediting of the estimate fee is only 50% if the cost of the work you have done is under $1000. This was not disclosed on the phone and can be found nowhere on their website. It was only revealed on the estimate.

Second, the handyman that arrived came with 2 different style vents to replace our damaged vents. When we requested that he use the same style since both vents he was replacing were identical to begin with, he became confrontational and argumentative. After some time, he reluctantly agreed to go to a supply store and get 2 of the same vent, but was going to charge us for the time. This required a call to his supervisor which did resolve the issue. When he returned, his attitude had not changed and he performed the work. As far as I can tell, the work was done properly, but the vents are high off the ground (about 15 feet or so) and therefore its difficult to inspect them properly. Given his attitude, I am not certain that he put forth his best effort and would not be surprised if we had to have another contractor do this work again in the near future. He also did not clean up after himself. I found scraps of plastic and wire on the ground.

As part of the initial estimate.we had interior work planned as well. However, given the workers attitude and lack of even an insincere apology, we have decided to get this work done by someone else. We will not be calling Mr. Handyman again."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

For the best results, stay off of your deck for at least 48 hours after sealing it. Giving the sealant at least two full days to cure ensures it can fully penetrate the wood, giving you the most protection from sun and weather damage later on. Walking on the deck too soon can prevent it from properly curing and cause your deck to weather prematurely.

Materials for a second-story deck must be weather- and rot-resistant, though the specific choices will largely be determined by your budget and style preference. Pressure-treated wood is on the lower end of the price scale, but it can be customized and stained the way you like it. Composite, on the other hand, is pricier for installation and has fewer options for customization, but you’ll save money and time in the long run because it requires little maintenance.

The best way to clean your decking is to clear debris from the gaps between the boards, sweep the surface, rinse it, apply cleaner, rinse again, and let it dry fully. A homemade deck cleaner made of two gallons of warm water and 1/2 cup vinegar is a simple cleaning solution for both wood and composite decking. You can sprinkle baking soda on any spots with mold or mildew, then scrub the area and rinse clean.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

Yes, you can draw your own deck plans in many cases. However, you must know your local building codes and be familiar with carpentry principles. Even then, it's always best to run your plans by a professional contractor with experience building decks, whether you choose to DIY some of the build or not.
