"We had insulation installed a week earlier by Koala. During the insulation, Jasper (insulator) suggested another area that we might consider installing blown-in insulation. We agreed and the second job was performed on Friday, the 24th. Jasper and Richard were on time, the insulation project was well done and they left the area very clean. Would use them again."

"I hired Atlas Home Energy Solutions to remove old insulation and replace it with the foam technique. However, I ran into numerous unexpected problems due to a slow leak from old pipes. It took awhile to sort out. Atlas Home Energy Solutions gave me lots of expert advice. They were willing to come out and review the situation. They were also willing to reschedule and wait until another contractor dealt with the water issue and its ensuing problems. They helped me make some difficult decisions before they could insulate the crawl space. When it was ready for them to come and insulate the area they bumped their schedule forward to get it done. Rigid foam board insulation is one of the safest insulation materials for basement walls. The panels offer a moisture barrier to prevent mold and mildew build-up. At the same time, this material is also fire-resistant, so you don’t have to worry as much about a fire breaking out as you would with spray foam insulation. 

You do not always need to remove old insulation before adding new. If the existing insulation is in good condition—not wet, physically damaged, moldy, or infested with pests—you can add new insulation directly on top of it for a compounding effect. You can also mix different types, such as adding blown-in insulation around existing fiberglass batts.

However, removal is recommended if the old insulation is compromised by water damage or pests. You should also remove it if you plan to install a different type of insulation, like switching from roll or batt insulation to spray foam. If the existing insulation is very old or damaged, you will likely get more benefit from removing it and starting fresh.

The level of insulation is determined by both the material and the thickness of the door. Some garage door materials (such as wood) have natural insulating capabilities, while other materials (such as metal) do not. No matter the material, two-layer and three-layer garage doors have a higher R-value than single-layer garage doors, as insulation is fitted between the panels.
