"There was a problem initially with the radiant barrier installation - the first crew of two were installing 30" wide rolls lengthwise along the roof end to end  instead of from ridge to eave as the manufacturer recommends and made a couple of other minor mistakes which were easily corrected. After talking to the manufacturer, the sales rep offered to take out what had been installed and re-install according to spec or continue as already done with sealing of all seams and a discount on the job. Done this way, the foil would not have the insulation properties per spec but would provide the radiant barrier I desired. I chose the letter option and the barrier work was continued by another crew on the 2nd day. On the 3rd day the crew finished up with the barrier then blew in the installation.

With the exception of the initial problem, the work was done neatly and professionally by courteous workmen who cleaned up completely after the job was done.

"Bob & his crew arrived on time and worked diligently to add the insulation to my home taking the time to educate me as well. They cleaned up afterwards and even patched up some nail pops that appeared."

"i scheduled an appointment to get 3 missing shingles replaced. i saw the $149 deal that included a full roof inspection, replacement of up to 5 shingles, attic inspection and a few other maintenance tasks along with a $250 credit for future use. i really only needed the shingles replaced but i'm glad i purchased this deal. Howard (one of their head techs) arrived right on time for the scheduled appointment. first thing he inspected was my attic. he found a few issues and described them fully to me along with showing me pictures. he noticed one of my air ducts was not connected, which meant i was heating and cooling my attic for who knows how long and also meant my bedroom was not getting the right air supply either. to save me time in having to hire an HVAC specialist, Howard asked me for a roll of duct tape and was able to reconnect the dislodged air duct. he then spotted a leak in the roof about the size of a quarter that was dripping through the insulation. he also saw water marks in another location but wasn't quite sure how it got there. after he inspected the attic, he hopped up on the roof. he replaced the 3 missing shingles (didn't match my current shingle color but no big deal). he also found where the leak was coming from. apparently there was a bullet casing stuck in the roof which was causing the leak! after his work was complete, he gave me a full description of what he saw and a few recommendations. he answered any questions that i had. Overall, Howard seemed like he had a lot of experience and was honest. total time of the work took about 2 hrs 15 minutes from start to finish. i would use them again in the future for any roofing needs. he told me they do other work like windows and siding. my only negative was that my appointment date was about 1 month from when i called to schedule it. i'm guessing it's because they are busy and booked up but it was obvious after the quality of service that was provided. also, the pictures he took were supposed to be sent to me. it's been about 5 days now since service and i have not received them yet."

"They pointed out areas of air loss that needed to be covered or blocked and advised  more attic insulation which service they will provide. Their price offer seems reasonable.  I'm still crunching numbers.

"Overall it went well except I didn't get the other estimates I requested for insulation and gutters. This was not the low bid but they have done several cedar roofs in the area and have a good reputation. The end result looks really good.

"We have the BGE Home protection program, so we have them come out in Fall to do a check-up on the heating system, and in the Spring to check-up on the A/C. They are always prompt, pleasant and professional. In the past we have had them repair the system and we area always happy with their work. The protection plan is well worth it - we had a water heater die and it was great that we could call BGE and have the problem fixed without having to pay thousands of dollars.

"Excellent. The crew showed up on time, and they completed the roofing & insulation job in one day. The gutter job took only a few hours. The architectural shingles look great and should withstand any storm (some of the old lightweight three-tab shingles blew off in heavy winds). The insulation job was done at the same time as the roofing job which meant the insulation was installed through a temporary hole in the roof, so they didn't even have to enter the house. We noticed the 2nd floor was cooler the first night and expect this will reduce our cooling and heating bills. The new seamless 6-inch gutters handle heavy rain unlike the older 4-inch gutters. They are also less prone to clogs by leaves, and the sturdy interior mounting brackets look clean and won't pull out like the old gutter spikes. The initial meeting with LKC was easy: we told them about the roof an other problems, they discussed options, made recommendations, and gave us time to think it over. There was no nonsense about "offer good tonight only" like some of the other contractors. Once we made our selections, LKC presented a very reasonable price and schedule. LKC also provided an extensive information packet about the shingles warranty. LKC has an excellent reputation in the neighborhood. They stayed in touch with us throughout the job and were always available when we called to ask questions. My only regret is that I didn't have this work done a few years earlier."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

An insulated garage benefits from roof vents to ensure proper ventilation and prevent moisture buildup. Insulation can trap moisture in the garage, especially during temperature fluctuations, and roof vents play a crucial role in expelling the moisture in the air. Including roof vents promotes air circulation, preventing condensation and enhancing overall air quality.

You do not need to drywall over most types of garage insulation. However, doing so can increase noise reduction, make the space more attractive, and keep children and pets from touching harmful fiberglass insulation. If you’re using cellulose or some other type of blown-in insulation (fiberglass and mineral wool are common), you will need drywall to contain the insulation material.

When doing any type of project involving mold, it's important to wear the right protective gear. You'll want an N-95 or KN-95 mask to keep yourself from inhaling mold spores, which can be irritating or trigger an allergic reaction in people with weakened immune systems. You'll also want to wear protective eyewear and gloves to limit your contact with mold.

It’s best not to install a radiant barrier directly under insulation because it requires an air gap on at least one side to work properly. Instead, you should install the radiant barrier over your existing insulation to create an air space to reflect the radiant heat.

You don’t need to staple insulation, as your drywall and studs will hold it into place. But if you already have a staple gun and staples lying around, it can help keep the product in place and avoid any shifting. But, most experts agree it’s an unnecessary step.

If you’re adding a vapor barrier, you will need to staple that in place.
