"We went to a large number of granite providers to try to figure out who would be best to replace the counter tops in our three bathrooms. We ended up choosing Pyramid Granite because they were very knowledgeable and helpful, very competitive on price, and they had great reviews on Angieslist. Our experience confirmed that the very positive Angieslist reviews were correct. The techs who measured, fabricated and installed our counter tops did an absolutely first rate job. We're very happy with our new counter tops. We heartily recommend Pyramid Granite."

"There was confusion over when they were picking up the rug and when it was going to be returned. The original information was always wrong and they always had an excuse. The owner was apologetic and gave me a lower price to make me happy. They did a great job on my white wool rug. Got all the stains out. The team had to move furniture in order to get the rug and then to put it back. They were very helpful and we gave them a nice tip for doing this. I would recommend this company but make sure you get clear information on pickup and delivery."

"Omar's did a great job replacing the ceiling on our three-season porch when it began to buckle. They offered an option to patch the damaged part or to replace the whole thing; we went with the latter. It took two days; the ceiling was done the first day, and then they took the second to paint. I was pleased with their work and would happily hire them again."

"After a horrible master bathroom remodeling experience with a different contractor we started this project with trepidation, but it was a VERY different experience. John Canay of MY Kitchen and Bath was knowledgeable and professional. He understood our budget and kept within it, offering multiple choices of materials without overwhelming us, and guided us and made helpful suggestions if we were unsure of our selections. The contract was simple and easy to understand. They obtained the necessary permits quickly (and have a great relationship with the Town of Herndon, unlike our previous contractor), were able to start our project within a couple of weeks of signing, and completed the project several days earlier than their written estimate. Demolition went smoothly, they cleaned up after themselves completely every night before leaving (the previous contractors left us living in a filthy construction zone for weeks), and were very careful not to mark walls or carpets while moving supplies up and down stairs. Abraham and his colleague were happy and pleasant workers whom I had no qualms about leaving in the house alone. John dropped by daily to check that the project was proceeding smoothly and to address any issues. He responded to our occasional phone calls and texts promptly. The quality of the work was top notch, and a few minor items on the punch list were addressed quickly and to our satisfaction. We wouldn't hesitate to hire MY Kitchen and Bath again."

Small jobs welcome

"Hired to weed , mulch and edge beds. Found out he also did painting so I asked him to do an exterior painting and repair project. Did both jobs simultaneously and I was happy with both. I will call him again when the need arises."

Marble Restoration questions, answered by experts

Beyond landscaping, limestone has multiple uses. For example, there are multiple pros and cons to limestone countertops, such as a lower cost compared to other types of stone and heat resistance. Limestone is also a key ingredient in limewash, a type of paint with a chalky texture. Other uses for limestone include siding, retaining walls, and mixed into cement.

It’s generally safe to use a Magic Eraser on quartz countertops. Magic Erasers are made from melamine foam, a gentle abrasive that can remove scratches and stains from various surfaces. Although using abrasive cleaners on quartz is not recommended, the melamine foam is gentle enough to remove minor stains and scratches without permanently damaging the quartz countertops.

You can’t change the color of the stone, but you can update granite countertops without replacing them by painting them. Because granite is a porous material, you’ll want to seal them first before painting them so that the paint doesn’t hurt the surface. This is important because you don’t want to devalue your counters by damaging the original surface; even if you don’t like the color now, you or a new homeowner may want to remove the paint someday and return them to their original color. You can also cover them with

The frequency for sealing granite countertops depends on several factors, including the type of sealant used, the color of the granite, and how heavily the countertops are used. As a general guideline, resealing is often recommended every 12 to 18 months, but some sources suggest it could be as often as every few months or at least once a year.

The type of sealant is a major factor: water-based sealants may need reapplication every six months to a year, while more durable solvent-based sealants can last for five to 10 years. Additionally, factors like heavy kitchen traffic, frequent use of acidic cleaners, and lighter granite colors may require more frequent sealing to prevent staining.

To determine if your countertops need resealing, you can perform a simple water test. Place a few drops of water or a wet paper towel on an inconspicuous area of the granite. After 10 to 15 minutes, check the spot. If the water has beaded up, the seal is still intact. If the water has been absorbed and darkened the stone, it's time to apply a new coat of sealant. You can choose to seal the granite yourself or hire a professional to ensure it's done correctly.

You can cut granite countertops after installing them, but you need to consider the mess it will make. Dust will be everywhere, and lots of protective gear will be required. On top of that, you will need to measure meticulously to make sure the cuts you make are perfect; otherwise, you’ll be stuck having to replace the entire slab of granite, which is a much bigger job.
