"Excellent work. The crew arrived on time and first took down a dead tree near our driveway and house. One worker climbed the tree and carefully took off branches and then dropped the tree into the woods. Then they went to work on another tree that had branches reaching out toward our house. All taken down safely and efficiently and they cleaned up when they were done. I'd definitely hire them again."

"They responded to quickly to my request to trim two ornamental apple trees with a very reasonable quote. Upon arriving at my home, I could tell the camaraderie of the 5 man crew. The tree climber was incredible in what he did. The supporting crew cleaned up the yard before they left. I also accepted an offer to trim the overgrown bushes in my front yard again for a reasonable fee. It was clear that they knew what they were doing here as well. They improved the appearance of my landscape significantly. It only took them an hour and half to complete the work which would have taken me a day (assuming I can climb trees). After they were done, they gathered around the grinder to socialize before moving on to the next job. It was sincerely a pleasure to work with these men."

"I would highly recommend this awesome company to anyone that needs tree service. They were very prompt in calling me back after my initial phone call. That was not the case for 5 other companies. "This was a high-risk tree removal due to how close the tree was to our home, and this team handled it with impressive professionalism. The initial consultation was thorough, and the estimator clearly understood the technical challenges involved. No overselling, just straightforward guidance. Scheduling was efficient, and communication from the office was consistent. The removal crew arrived on time and worked methodically. Their execution was precise. There was no damage, no issues, and no unnecessary disruption. The stump grinding was also done properly, not rushed. What stands out is the balance of quality and cost. The pricing was more than fair given the complexity of the job. It’s clear this company knows what they’re doing at every level from front office to field execution. Strong recommendation for anyone in Ellicott City needing reliable tree work."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Some fast-acting products can rot a tree stump in four to six weeks. Keep in mind, these products contain harsh chemicals that may prevent regrowth in the area. Other products, like fertilizer that contains lots of nitrogen, can enhance the process and rot a stump in about a year. (This is compared to the ten years it can take naturally for a stump to rot.)

It’s not always easy to tell when a tree is dying, although signs like dropping branches and brittle bark can sometimes offer clues. It can also be difficult to know whether a tree is dead or dormant, especially if it’s a deciduous tree. You’ll want to wait until a growth season to get a good idea of a tree’s health. When in doubt, contact an arborist for a consultation.

You will know that an oak tree needs to be removed when you see vertical cracks or dead branch stubs, which indicate internal decay. Other signs include trunk rot near the base of the tree and sprouts or small branches coming from the trunk.

Yes, cutting a tree's roots can cause it to fall, particularly if major support roots are severed. In extreme cases, trimming roots can affect the tree's structure and stability. Many crucial roots are located just below the soil's surface. If you make severe cuts to roots more than 2 inches in diameter, you risk impacting the tree's water flow and its ability to withstand severe winds or storms. Even cutting roots less than half an inch in diameter under or outside the tree's canopy can cut off its water supply, causing it to decline, die, and eventually topple.

The shepherd’s tree, native to the Kalahari Desert in Africa, holds the record for the deepest known tree roots at over 230 feet deep. Some African communities refer to it as the “Tree of Life” since it provides food, shade, and medicinal properties to the surrounding community.
