"We had them install an indoor sump pump (including digging the pit and pipes) and some basement walkout drain installation. They did high-quality work and finished quickly. Their price was the best of 5 quotes I received and so the value was high. The only thing that was not perfect was that communication was slow, sometimes they did not respond to texts, but they were good when they responded, and they showed up on time. Overall, 9/10, highly recommend!"

"The installation of the egress window and sump pump was performed in a skilled and professional manner. It's a complex and dirty job that really needs to be done right the first time. While Jordan is not the cheapest, the work done was of the highest quality. After the project was completed, the walls were repaired and everything was meticulously cleaned. Jordan went the extra mile. I would definitely recommend JDS Home Improvement."

"Pretty good, but sloppy on some of the execution. Next time I would insist the foreman take more notes, and take more notes myself, as we progressed through the project and discussed details. The plumber didn't install the shower according to instructions so a finished wall of Greek marble had to be ripped out, and he left pipes that bang when the water is shut off. The tile guys were not used to working with natural stone, so didn't mix and match the variations of color and shade well, and left rings in the floor sealer from setting down the container on the wet surface they had just coated. Wall hardware was installed by eye, so towel hangers are not level. We specified zero spacing between the 1' X 2' wall tiles, but they installed it with 1/8" grout lines. They also spilled white paint on our brick porch outside the kitchen door and we can't get it out of the bricks. Little things, but we see them every day. Everyone was very pleasant and always on time, so it was hard to get mad at them, but the casual execution and failure to follow some instructions was (and still is) irritating.

"

JLI Services, Inc took on our project not knowing what was under the overgrown ivy. Once all the ivy was removed, they built the 100 ft long staggered retaining wall, used the proper drainage for the height of the wall, back filled, and then added top soil with grading to connect to our existing yard. As a bonus, they laid grass seed and covered with hay. Through this process, we gained an additional 3 1/2 feet of yard that we never knew we had because of the ivy overgrowth. We added to their scope of work, and they were able to meet our needs each time. The job was completed on schedule and done on budget. The workers were friendly and answered any questions we had. They cleaned up everyday, which was important since we have dogs. Several neighbors and even the inspector commented on the quality of the work.

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

Egress windows require regular maintenance to ensure they function correctly. This includes cleaning the glass, inspecting the frame and well for debris, and making sure the cover or well drains properly. It is also important to check that the window sills and wells are watertight and to inspect and repair any damage to the window frame or seals to prevent leaks and maintain functionality.

The primary benefits of an egress window include providing a safe emergency exit, increasing natural light in a space like a basement, and improving ventilation. Additionally, installing an egress window can often increase your property's value.

The proper way to install a window well is to measure the window, dig a hole deeper and wider than the window, place a drainage tube and cap, anchor the well to the foundation, caulk the seam, and backfill the hole. The job requires tools such as a hammer drill and auger and some heavy digging. Proper placement and window well installation are critical to preventing water from leaking into the window.

Basements are generally required to have windows for your safety. At a minimum, windows should provide an egress in the event of a fire. But basement windows do more than offer a way out; basement windows also offer natural light and ventilation in an area of your home that is otherwise dark and musty.

Yes, you can always make an existing window bigger, but the job complexity varies widely depending on the location of the window and the framing around it. Exterior walls are always load-bearing, so making windows wider will require structural changes that make for a more complex but doable project. Making windows taller often won’t require structural changes.
