"Mr. Hintz is a very courteous and accommodating person. He was willing to meet at my convenience. He is very professional; his work performance was outstanding. When I saw his drawings, all I could say was "wow!" I was very pleasantly awed. He is worth every penny charged. I am truly satisfied and happy that I called him. We're still working on the project, but I believe its only going to get better. Thanks Berny!"

"I recently had work done by the Krause Crew & I was just beyond impressed and I extremely respect the way they conduct business; from start to finish. The entire team is just Ultra Responsive; from the owner, to the staff, to dealing with the front office; it just made the whole process flawless! Impeccable Work Ethic by the Staff. Execution done RIGHT…With Very Fair Pricing and Full Transparency. Honestly all I ever want in a project! If you’re looking for someone to do any type of construction work; I highly encourage to throw them into the ring while you’re getting quotes. Besides the finish product being perfect, they do it with great customer service! Brian Gavin"

"It went very well. Though the crew was late arriving (normal, for traffic in this area!), they worked hard and well, and the architect-engineer (Arthur Balter) was here both at the beginning and near the end of the work to make certain that things were progressing well. The new brick patio is beautiful and well-constructed, and I am very pleased! I also needed my apple tree to be treated against bug infestation. Ballard injects rather than sprays, which I prefer."

Architects questions, answered by experts

The primary reason homes have crawl spaces is so the foundation can reach down below the frost line to avoid dangerous soil movement and structural damage when the ground freezes. They’re more popular in colder climates where the ground freezes down to a few feet, and slabs are most popular in warmer areas where there is no frost line. Crawl spaces also provide a space for utility lines to run where they’re at less of a risk of freezing.

While the Arts and Crafts movement inspired many architectural elements, the primary styles from the time include Craftsman, Tudor Revivals, bungalows, and Mission homes. You'll see elements of these styles in homes, churches, museums, and schools—particularly Country Day schools from the era.

The design phase varies by project size and complexity; initial ideas can take weeks, while extensive plans may extend to months for complete detailing.

Blueprints are generally available for houses built after the early 1900s. Before then, detailed building schematics like blueprints were rarely used and even more rarely saved. If you have an older house and need blueprints, you can have a new set drawn up by an architect or draftsperson.

A home elevator is a fantastic way to improve your home’s accessibility. Elevators allow anyone, even those who use wheelchairs or walkers, to safely move between floors within your home.

Dumbwaiters may allow you to move items up and down floors, and stair lifts can move people up and down, but elevators are the best option if you need space for people, their belongings, and/or mobility aids such as wheelchairs.

That said, home elevators cost more than other options, such as stair lifts. Consider your needs and your budget when deciding the best way to make your home more accessible to a person with a disability or a person who is aging in place.
